Re: The (new, straight-from-scratch) Trump thread
I imagine that Trump's/Homan's task force will focus on aliens who have had an interaction with the police, even if the charges were dropped or if it was only a traffic ticket. That's because it gives them an address. Pissing off the Colombians is nothing. Apparently the geniuses from ICE are going...

Re: The (new, straight-from-scratch) Trump thread
You might have heard the story yesterday about Colombia refusing two illegal alien repatriation flights on military aircraft. Trump threatened them on social media while golfing, and before he had finished his round, Colombia had backed off. American media, pundits, and politicians don't appear to u...

Re: "Katherine Maher on the future of trusted information"
Looks like Musk and Ramaswamy's DOGE is going to recommend complete government defunding of NPR and PBS News and using that clip of Maher promoting post-modernist ideology as part of the justification.

Re: Cla68's doomsday scenario about Wikipedia begins to become reality
Do editors edit less after a US election? I can imagine the leftists feeling less motivated in spreading their propaganda if there isn't an election coming up. I haven't checked, but I imagine the established activist editors and admins who have been most engaged in managing the political articles ...

Re: Cla68's doomsday scenario about Wikipedia begins to become reality
I think the Israel-Hamas/Hezbollah/Houthi/Iran war has sucked most of the oxygen out of the room and has postponed the reckoning to Wikipedia on the Holocaust stuff. We'll see.

Re: It's November 2024, Wikipedians are still arguing for pages about Gamergate
Was Gamergate the first article in Wikipedia in which they locked down the talk/discussion page so only established editors could participate? If so, it has set a precedent, and now many other articles on politics have also semi-protected the talk page. It reminds me of mainstream media outlets who ...

Re: The election
Although this thread is in the off-topic forum, I think one of the biggest losers in Trump's recent elections is Wikipedia. As has been observed, about 30-50 established editors and admins in Wikipedia have spent the last eight years trying to destroy Trump and Trumpism. A number of them have spent,...

Re: Katherine Maher Named C.E.O. of NPR
Maher has had an interesting start at NPR. A week ago, one of her senior editors published an essay criticizing his employer for engaging in shamelessly biased reporting: https://www.thefp.com/p/npr-editor-how-npr-lost-americas-trust Maher responded by blocking him for five days: https://www.washing...

Re: Wikipedians are unable to establish any coherent definition for "incel"
That wikipedia article on incels is really negative in tone. As some of you have noted, it's likely because the incel situation is involved in the current socio-political struggle in the West. Quite a few of mass shootings are committed by incels, either self-identified or not, apparently because a ...
