Re: Examples of the WMF interfering in en.wiki?

Interesting stuff Eric. Thanks.

Are you aware of other instances, besides BLP, where the WMF acted as the "adults in the room" and forced a change of content or a change of PAG, against the wishes of editors?

Re: Examples of the WMF interfering in en.wiki?

I know they imposed BLP on all projects ( https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Resolution:Biographies_of_living_people ) and the UCoC is meant (at least in theory) to create a standard of civility for smaller projects. However, I can't think of an example of them changing the PAGs of a project, me...

Re: Examples of the WMF interfering in en.wiki?

Are there any historical examples of the WMF, for one reason or another, interfering with en.wikipedia (or another language wikipedia) to force a change of policies or guidelines? Among the most obvious vectors of interference are the many Foundation employees and grant recipients who are also "fun...

Re: Russian interference

Oh wow. Politics is not a science. You're treating these books as if they are scientific research, which is indeed "vetted by the scholarly community" and must pass "peer-review". These books are nothing like that. They are not "vetted by the scholarly community" as they are political POV, not scie...

Re: Russian interference

I guess it all depends on whether these are decent scholarly sources. In real life, yes, but Wikipedia makes it pretty clear: ""Reliable scholarship – Material such as an article, book, monograph, or research paper that has been vetted by the scholarly community is regarded as reliable, where the m...

Russian interference

The article "Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections" is a very peculiar article. It has over 500 citations, but, as far as I can tell, only ONE scholarly citation. The one scholarly citation sharply criticizes the narrative that has been promulgated by the popular media & by the US...

Whoever "Ad Orientem" is, I like them. He made the first comment in favor of deleting the essay, and said "It smacks of an attempt to turn Wikipedia into an ideological echo chamber. We need to draw a line somewhere and this seems like a good place to start." Amen. There was one comment in the AfD ...
