Michael Shermer discovers that "science has a liberal bias"
Brace yourself, this item will set off a lot of TRIGGERING. Why did Scientific American fire Shermer in 2019? https://www.city-journal.org/article/unscientific-american Shermer aside, this IS something I've noticed about current American progressives: a weird tendency to harp about how A*W*F*U*L eve...

Re: Around the Administrators in 80 days....
Highly active 2006-09, but been bumbling along at 100-200 edits per year since 2014. A very common pattern for early admins. Burnout occurs after 4-8 years of supporting the "cult" and fighting with random idiots. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/IncidentArchive...

Re: Section 230 is in trouble -- at last !
It's Tuesday and someone famous is whining about Section 230. So OF COURSE Mike Masnick has to whine about the whiner. https://www.techdirt.com/2024/05/07/raging-ignorantly-at-the-internet-fixes-nothing/ Wenner always WAS a raging coke-addled asshole. Now he's an old coke-addled asshole? BTW, the we...

Re: Common names invented on Wikipedia
So the point is; someone invents a name for a fish species and posts it on the WP article, it ends up on a "WP mirror" called inaturalist, and no one noticed for TWO YEARS? When someone does notice, "indefinite block for vandalism"? As far as I can tell, most of Alomomola's "common names" were prope...

Re: Paid Editing on WP is permissible
Chamber of Commerce bullshit of the week: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clearfield,_Utah Do you see any references in the "History" or "Government" sections? It took them TWO YEARS to figure out they should block this account. And more than ten years later, no one has seen fit to fix the content. ht...

BD2412 Bruce Abramson. "Well known as administrator BD2412, he has been a major contributor to Wikipedia's otherwise-spotty coverage of American law. He has also shown blind patriotic zeal towards "protecting" Wikipedia, and supporting other administrators, right or wrong. Otherwise Bruce is a rema...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jolie_Holland Semi-well-known indie folk musician. Never heard of her? Neither did I....until TAPE OP magazine ran an item on her recently. Did she edit her own bio? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Jolie_Holland It mentions one of her recording engin...

Re: subtle vandalism may persist
Personally have not seen any outstanding examples of subtle vandalism recently. Though I could fill up a long thread with examples of bad writing on WP content.
Vandalism continues to be stupid and obvious 99.99% of the time, and this continues to be even more stupid. And incomplete.

Re: Around the Administrators in 80 days....
So far so good. I'd suggest adding their personal interests from their "Top edits" page.
(If possible. Apparently XTools recently implemented an option where a wiki-asshole can disable their XTools pages for anyone not logged in. Bbb23 is using it--predictably.)
