Re: Boring...."Wikipedia bans the Daily Mail as a source"

This is how Ed Buckner and I ultimately summarized it for the book notes. January 2017: Wikipedia editors voted to ban the Daily Mail as a source for the website in all but exceptional circumstances after deeming the news group “generally unreliable”. The absurdity was started by Hillbillyholiday, a...

Re: Paid Editing on WP is permissible

Is this Soham321 giving it to the man ? m Could be. And that reminds me: no one has "outed" El_C yet. If anyone here wants a "hobby" that would make a good time-waster. Now for something to really make you go "hmm": m Created on 29 March 2011 by a student editing WP fo...

Re: The WO blog is now nearly moribund.....

I think losing Hersch really hurt the blog. Indeed it did. Hersch ran the blog until 2015 and was responsible for getting new content (unless something "really embarrassed a Wikipedian", then it was disappeared by Zoloft). It was claimed that Hersch left because of something I said or did...

Re: "Cartoon cat’s gender identity launched a Wikipedia war"

Of all the schlocky newspaper comic strips that sank the artform into tedium, I have to blame Garfield as the creator of a space for lazy crap like Dilbert , Baby Blues , Marvin , and the Garfield ripoff Heathcliff . The only good things that Garfield gave us were the Photoshop reworkings starting ...

Re: Paid Editing on WP is permissible

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is a moderately semi-obscure R&B musician (IMO). Nominated for Grammy awards but never won. So far as I can tell, he's most famous for marrying Mel Gibson's daughter. If he's got paid editing it's very good and careful paid editing. If these are his fans, he's got really ob...

"Cartoon cat’s gender identity launched a Wikipedia war"

Everything about this is stupid. If it was intended to be "humorous", it fails.

So stupid, it was posted on Meat-a-filter, and triggered a whinefest:

Re: The (new, straight-from-scratch) Trump thread

I would not be surprised if a big chuck of the /r/The_Donald userbase are just sock accounts run by a gang of twentysomething "failsons" following orders from some bald backroom suit inside the GOP. Chances are better than 50%. They are classic incompetent narcissists, just the kind of br...

Re: Paid Editing on WP is permissible

Just another ego-monument that the Wik-idiots failed to notice, this one being a very obscure musician and gear-whore: m Created in February 2015 by an SPA, massively expanded after that by " Billyjs ". Further expanded by another SPA called Cterry216 . Who is? m Pathetic. He did not even ...

Re: Paid Editing on WP is permissible

The above has been a routine for years with articles about the public-relations business. Back in 2011 I saw what happened to the Burson-Marsteller article. Completely open paid editing, declared , that no one said "boo" to. m Same thing happened with the Hill+Knowlton article. David King ...
