Jimboo sticks his little nose into Bluesky

Because no one else is doing it--not even the media.

It's funny as hell to see journalists complaining about Zuckerberg the ochlocrat, not realizing that Wales himself tried to become a similar sort of internet ochlocrat back in the 1990s. One word: Bomis. And failed, massively, because he wasn't smart, sleazy, and/or obsessed to the needed level. Wikipedia was a side project that took off because Wales received support from "free culture" nerds.

Don't start me on Cory Doctorow. He ran an editorial saying that he would not use Bluesky because it will become "enshittified". Chances are good, but then chances are also good that things like Mastodon and Bluesky will never achieve the incredible user mass of X or Meta "products" or other aging Web 2.0 social systems. That user mass was achieved at-least-partly because arrogant and popular technology cheerleaders with tunnel vision, like Cory Doctorow, encouraged people to use the damn things. For years. People like Doctorow help to ruin social media, by pumping it. Ironic.
The “Free Our Feeds” campaign includes Hollywood stars like Marvel mainstay Mark Ruffalo and Bill and Ted star Alex Winter, as well as tech luminaries like Wikipedia’s Jimmy Wales, Mozilla Foundation executive director Nabiha Syed, and Facebook investor-turned-foe Roger McNamee.
Who? They're waving around Mark Ruffalo and Alex Winter? As "prominent celebrities"? And mentioning McNamee just doubles up the stupidity, because McNamee is a tunnel-vision venture capitalist, who spent 2006 babbling about the magic....of Wikipedia.

I will say it again: Wales does not care about "free culture" or "open systems", except insofar as he can use them to feed his little narcissistic ego. He's a failed Elon Musk with a smaller fan club, basically.
