So it looks like Jimbo has conned some more people into funding his next failure. A news oriented social networking site. Anyone want to start taking bets on how long this one lasts?

According to other former staffers (who asked not to be named), that was not the project’s only miscalculation. They paint a picture of generalised improvisation and lack of direction, in which founders scrambled to chart a way forward while failing to grasp the practicalities of journalism and news-gathering. Wales wanted to rescue journalism, but, to his team, it was not clear whether he understood journalism in the first place.

Jimmy’s frame of reference about journalism is that it’s easy, it’s just a nice turn of phrase. That comes from believing that the wiki-way means you can do anything.

I'll take three months. There you go, pointless answers to a pointless question given.

But anyway, I'm all ears. Kumioko, what are your thoughts on the benefits and drawbacks of a donation funded news focused social network? Why do you think of Jimmy's reasoning for reimagining his original WikiTribune concept so soon? Or rather, retooling the thing for what appears to be a third time now?
