Today a relative almost quit his job after accepting an offer for a fake-scam remote job offered up on Linkedin. He filled out a job application, spoke to someone in human resources, looked at the real company website, interviewed with the person hiring him, and signed a contract complete with an NDA and non-compete. The scammers had cat-fished a real company and they hijacked the identity of a real executive; both the company and the executive were legitimate and searchable.
and all this is totally allowable on Linkedin - thank you section 230.
This kind of nonsense has been going on for a long time and Linkedin's policy is "the honey badger doesn't care" because they are hosting content and therefore not responsible for anything.
