"Music Label Demands Google Delist A Wikipedia Page With Info It Doesn’t Like"

Because no one else is doing it--not even the media.

"Music Label Demands Google Delist A Wikipedia Page With Info It Doesn’t Like"

The takedown request wants a Wikipedia page removed from Google’s search results because it talks about YouTube rippers, and offers a detailed comparison of them. Links to the software are incidental, appearing only at the foot of the page as references. The demand that Google should de-list links to the page in its search results is a thinly disguised but dangerous attack on knowledge. The implicit message is nobody should be allowed to talk about, or even know about things that the copyright world disapproves of. It’s the logical conclusion of Big Content’s view that everything online should be subordinate to its pursuit of total control there.
Oooohhhhhh, dangerous attack on knowledge! Why don't they sue YouTube directly instead? Oh, right, others already tried. And FAILED. Because of Section 230. And Wikipedia probably told them to piss off when they asked for the removal of the list of YT rippers (which you can easily Google up anyway).

The article they're bitching about has existed since 2011. On the talkpage:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Comp ... _this_Page

PS "Because Music" is a very obscure label. They have a Wikipedia article, which says:
In 2017, Because acquired the catalogues of over 60 artists from Warner Music Group, including Mano Negra, The Beta Band,[6] and most of London Records.[7]
Let me guess: nearly all the back catalog they acquired was already posted on YouTube. (If it's London Records back catalog, it's OLD.) And they are angry they can't resell copies of old material to the nostalgia market or what have you. Good luck with the groovy complaint, assholes.

If anyone is in any doubt Wikipedia is dying a slow death, just take a look at....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia ... ownloaders

The first editor on scene is the retard Davey2010. He argues it is an easy keep, even though he has offered three absolutely retarded reasons (Google hits, OTHERSTUFF, doesn't fail NOTMANUAL).

Back in the day, before Eric Corbett chased away the sensible editors, such utter stupidity would be easily recognised and dealt with. Nowadays, it stands as the intellectual high point of a debate where the manifestly wrong outcome occurred, leaving Wikipedia open to a lawsuit.

Wikipediocracy can go fuck themselves if they seriously think a well paid lawyer couldn't successfully argue in court that dumb shit like this cannot be accepted as an alternative to the Foundation paying people to enforce its clearly stated policies.

Because the policy is clearly stated. NOTMANUAL says.....
Wikipedia articles should not exist only to describe the nature, appearance or services a website offers, but should also describe the site in an encyclopedic manner, offering detail on a website's achievements, impact or historical significance, which can be kept significantly more up-to-date than most reference sources, since editors can incorporate new developments and facts as they are made known.
Easy fail.

Literally not one of the keep voters offered a rebuttal.

Davey2010 clearly thinks he did, but that's retards for you.

Back in the day, SoWhy might have spotted these deficiencies and done something about it. Nowadays, feeling the pressure of the AfD backlog, he knows there's nobody around who can help and all that would come from trying to do the right thing would be an extended discussion with Davey2010, during which he is almost certainly going to insult you or call for your desysoppibg, sowhy fucking bother?

I like that, Big Content.

Know who shouldn't be paid for content? Glyn Moody. He should live on the street and write for free.

This story passed with VERY little notice, except for TorrentFreak and Techdirt. More than 2 weeks later, no other mentions.

Just a reminder: the RIAA has hated Wikipedia for a loooong time. The SOPA shutdown in 2012 really started the full-on rage boner.
