"City Officials Tried To Force Wikimedia To Remove Truthful, But Unflattering, Content From Its Wiki Page"

Because no one else is doing it--not even the media.

"City Officials Tried To Force Wikimedia To Remove Truthful, But Unflattering, Content From Its Wiki Page"

Barely noticed when it happened last week:

At the request of several elected officials, Durham city attorney Kimberly Rehberg last month asked Wikipedia to unmask the identities of users who have published accurate but unfavorable information about said officials to the crowdsourced encyclopedia—a move that experts call inappropriate and troubling.

In a certified letter to the Wikimedia Foundation dated June 29 and obtained by the INDY last week, Rehberg explained that she was writing at the “express request” of Mayor Elaine O’Neal and city council members DeDreana Freeman and Monique Holsey-Hyman, each of whom took issues with content on their Wikipedia pages.
You be the "judge".

In June 2023, Durham city attorney Kimberly Rehberg, at the requests of O'Neal and councilwomen Monique Holsey-Hyman and DeDreana Freeman, sent a certified letter to the Wikimedia Foundation requesting for the identities of three Wikipedia editors who had worked on the politicians' articles to be revealed, along with individual changes requested to be made to the aforementioned articles.[13] O'Neal in particular requested the identity of one of the three editors, whom she cited to be the uploader of an image of her signature to her article. The request for the editor’s identity was denied, but the signature was removed, making it the only approved request of the document.[14]

Which article has a very long "Extortion allegations and investigation" section AND repeats the story of the WMF letter, which is a classic hallmark of shitting on someone the Wikipedians don't like.

Seems like a combative lady. But until Willtha created an article she was a very obscure local politician. It would be a good candidate for an AFD, except a letter "demanding things" was sent to the WMF.

Remember: all of them are black female Democrats with histories of social work. Normally they would be treated as heroes by Wiki-nits. This story reeks. Perhaps someone in Wikiworld should be asking who the hell "Willthacheerleader18" is. But they won't--because there are few Wiki-Crimes more terrible than trying to "dox" an anonymous WP contributor, regardless of the circumstances.
