12 Tips for Publishing a Wikipedia Article to Boost Your Online Reputation: A Complete Guide

This guide is very confusing.

They get the essential points right - if your aim is to use Wikipedia to repair a damaged online reputation or build a positive one, your best bet is not to be unrealistic, be sanguine and diplomatic, and try to blend in and show willingness to help out on other stuff. And be in it for the long haul, before and after publishing.

And yet the guide is a bit contradictory on the whole issue of transparency and honesty. I can't decide if it's just because they've made a mistale, they're lacking in experience, or if they're saying those things to avoid a takedown, while hoping people using the guide will read between the lines and get the message that the last thing you should do is tell them who you are and why you are there.

Still, whatever the truth, it amuses me to realise it is all down to the Wikipedians as far as who got them in this mess. Be that either through their unrealistic goals, or the complex bureaucracy that was the inevitable result of trying to marry idealism with practicality. It could have been so much simpler and robust.
