Good, bad, biased, paid or what-have-you. There's an endless supply.

I tried to edit the biography of the CME's CEO on the basis that the article was a soapy sales pitch. I was immediatly attacked by a gaggle CME PR staffers and executives. I identified them by name in talk

Ha ha. You can TRY to fix this, but there are thousands of other biographies of semi-obscure people like it. Quiet paid editing is everywhere on WP. And the WMF will probably deny it.

Oh btw, you might ask that pathetic Aussie administrator Adam "Bilby" Jenkins why he felt the need to do this.

That weenie must be reading wikipedia sucks, notice the date of his revision.

The tag was factual because it identified a corporations PR department managing that corporations CME CEOs page to prevent embarrassment. Personal responsibility taking is not something that's done in our current culture. It's a huge embarrassment to be caught writing propaganda on Wikipedia on behalf of yourself.

The big problem to me with Terrance Duffys wikipedia entry is that it is wrong to fact and critical thinking points.

He really set the stage for something called a bank bail-in. He and his friends in government. Its really a critical thinking point.

In a bank bail-in the depositors in an institution such as a bank or brokerage lose money when that institution goes bankrupt. This was a change he engineered when one of his member firms MF global went tits up when Jon Corzine decided to make customer money his own by gambling with it.

The depositors wind up being creditors and therefore their subject to the bankruptcy process. A precedent that this fellow effectually set in his mishandling of MF Global. That mishandling was this guy's greatest achievement.

That's a major point that will never be included in Wikipedia. The critical thinking points are just not going to be there. Brutal honesty is a b****.

Being retired I'm going golfing, yesterday I was on the water boating. Wikipedia is just illustrative of a very big cultural problem. My revenge to this cultural problem is living a life well and enjoying it more than the Toadies drinking the Kool-Aid of Wikipedia by editing or mis-administrating it.

I can muse about the problem of Wikipedia. If I'm a martyr I could try to correct elements of it. The platform is designed to be wrong and intractable in that wrongness. By being consistently wrong, there's no accountability or responsibility taking. It is a force of evil.

Not unusual. They watch WPO for things like this too. Sheer pettiness.

As I've said many times, don't bother trying to fight them directly. They hold all the buttons. Instead, post atrocities you find HERE, and then you will really drive them up the wall. And they can't delete posts on this forum.

And btw, I received an email today from "WikiSpecialist LLC". Completely open about it now. "Mr. Wilson" is either an insider or has insider "juice" with someone.

An article that was questionable, about a math professor who tried to claim "election fraud":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_J._Miller

until a blogger noticed that his "academic career" was absurdly overblown and full of lies......

https://liorpachter.wordpress.com/2020/ ... -evidence/

The blogger, Lior Pachter, personally tried to correct Miller's bio, along with a couple of others. Miller has a tendency to claim work by other people named "Steven Miller" or "S Miller" as his own. This is why Google Scholar is untrustworthy, and why it can be used to make WP lie.

Who inserted the bullshit on WP originally? Miller himself, by open admission!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:C ... 165.101.40

I wonder, do his employers at Williams College know he's been padding his website CV?

Long ago, I noticed the bullshit paid-editing smell wafting from Marc Benioff. Ten years later and no one's even noticed this. Is he giving large sums to the WMF in return for a constantly-positive bio? The talkpage is hilarious.

My guess is that this was removed on orders from the foundation which was pressured in turn

Advert|article|it IS Aggressively Being Managed by the CME's In House Public Relations Department as "paid advocacy"|See in house PR.

https://www.linkedin.com/in/pavelsolyak/de
https://www.cmegroup.com/media-room/media-contacts.html

What is even better is, in revision history, I asked the cme pr department to check with the cme legal department before deleting my revisions. I am sure this forced an internal discussion and a friendly phone call to the foundation. As for Bilby he was just a tool.

Besides the autistic and mentally ill there are lots of low level technology guys who dont fit in anywhere else. There are human robots at wikipedia but no human critical thinking.

You got it. Even the editing for pay is often miserable robotic quality. "This damn thing's busted".

I saw Laura Kightlinger many years ago. It STILL hasn't been cleaned up or updated. The photo on Commons was removed by one of those resident autists, probably just to "punish" her. She unsuccessfully had her date of birth changed. Which is quite typical of actresses on WP--you should always check the DOB if you're looking for paid-or-self-editing for "female entertainers of a certain age".

Still, if she paid someone to do this, she should get a damn refund or something...

Why do I keep posting these single instances? They are illustrations of how it's done, especially when it's for an arrogant filthy-rich asshole, who sees paid editing of WP as a "minor business expense". The professionals hide in the endless vast river of autists.

Someone posted another Jeff Goodell Rolling Stone rant about the end of the world on Facebook.

https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/cu ... e-1098923/

My response:
Goodell is such a "prominent writer" on climate change he's got a Brower Award and a Wikipedia article.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Goodell

And yes, it was greatly expanded by a sockpuppet who is either Goodell himself, a friend/family member, or a professional paid editor. As usual.
