Articles Wikipedia should have--but doesn't.

Good, bad, biased, paid or what-have-you. There's an endless supply.

Missing from Wikipedia
John F McManus
Dorothy Hunt
Most of the charimen and CEOs listed in John Birch Society have no biographies on WP. So not unexpected. Look at the talkpage; Collect, Doug Weller, Will Beback and jpgordon have been fighting off various people for years. Weller is ALWAYS bad news if he appears repeatedly in an article history. The result is usually a long but poorly written pile of feces.

And the lack of an article about Dorothy Hunt is beyond human understanding. This is the only discussion findable.

Wikipedia has a LOT of content about Amy Schumer. Because she's Jewish and related to a prominent senator, she gets "special treatment". I'll let you argue about whether her comedy work is "stellar" or not.

And what about her sister Kim Caramele? Equally Jewish, prominent scriptwriter/producer, goes around stirring up trouble on behalf of the WGA. Also "a winner of Emmy and Peabody awards for work on her sister’s show, “Inside Amy Schumer.”"

BRAV-M, a motorcycle police brigade in Paris. Already has an article in French and has plenty of English coverage:

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/04/11/worl ... tests.html

Found those in less than a minute of Google searching, and many more articles in French. Yet still no article. Not even a redirect.

I was complaining about their poor coverage of older TV series back in 2011 on Wikipedia Review. Even prepared a chart showing how stupid WP's coverage of TV shows is.

To this day, coverage of Doctor Who and Star Trek (the whole franchise except for films) are STILL running neck-to-neck to make them the "most important tv shows ever made". According to English Wikipedia. It shows how pathetic and nerdy Wikipedians are. Almost no coverage of shows that had high ratings, won multiple awards and ran for decades (Gunsmoke, I Love Lucy, All In The Family, etc.)

I just rechecked, and someone's been grinding the Gunsmoke coverage. The list of episodes sat nearly abandoned for years.....but last year it started to expand, quickly. It is now one of the longest "lists of" on Wikipedia, 570k bytes. Wonder if they noticed my complaints and realized they had a real problem.

However, I Love Lucy is still being ignored. The list of episodes is 128k bytes and has not changed much in the past 10 years. The Mary Tyler Moore Show list of episodes is 90k bytes and has also not changed much since 2014.

Compare that to Doctor Who. Unlike almost every other tv show in history, every Who episode ever made has its own lovingly detailed article....including production details, ratings, critical reception, etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_D ... 93present)
And please remember that 97 of those episodes were "lost", because the BBC didn't bother to save them.

Articles on Wikipedia are written for and by the people writing them.. so there is too much written and too little written with no consideration for readability, weighting, context, overview, accuracy, or truth.

On Britannica ; consistently and concisely (in a few paragraphs) written by a staff employee with a twenty year tenure as an editor; and then subject to an editorial process.

Weighting and context is a big part of truth telling.

Kovacs has been credited as an influence by many individuals and shows, including Johnny Carson, Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, Saturday Night Live, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Jim Henson, Max Headroom,[1] Chevy Chase,[2][3] Conan O'Brien,[4] Jimmy Kimmel, Captain Kangaroo, Sesame Street, The Electric Company, Pee-wee's Playhouse, The Muppet Show, Dave Garroway,[5] Andy Kaufman, You Can't Do That on Television, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Uncle Floyd, among others.[6][7] Chase even thanked Kovacs during his acceptance speech for his Emmy award for Saturday Night Live.[8][2]

No mention of Zoe Kestan
(IMHO who is slutty-butt-fuggily)
I guess the "policy" is that Wikipedia is not the news; when folks don't like the content - even though Kestan is clearly "notable" (notability being another fake-wonky policy)

over and over, I run across reality shows (usually on cable or streaming) that Wikipedia has ZERO coverage of. Some are popular and into multiple seasons. Is this an institutional hatred of reality TV generally, or are they just out to lunch? I'm betting some of each.

Nolan Toll Bridge, "the bridge the Russians almost built"

a decaying bridge connecting West Virginia to Kentucky was the subject of "an international incident" when the "self appointed mayor" of Vulcan, W. Va. appealed to the Soviet Union for repairs, after getting nowhere with the US bureaucracy. the USSR sent reporter/s and then-W. Va. governor Jay Rockefeller suddenly approved a replacement bridge. It closed in 2007 but residents continued to use it until the W. Va. side dug a trench to prevent people from using it.

the Vulcan article mentions the incident but the bridge itself is a redlink, linked from two articles.

Wikitwats love their military history.

Yet why is the Myasishchev article full of red links for obscure aircraft? The bureau was well-known for undertaking radical and weird projects, many of which were failures. It's all part of Soviet history, so is someone deciding to leave out things that weren't "successful"?

That inevitably leaves room for YouTubers to embarrass the "All-Human-Knowledge" thing, by making videos about failed Myasishchev projects.....
