Trying to prevent age discrimination is unconstitutional

Post by CrowsNest » Sat Mar 03, 2018 6:34 pm

Here's a thing. The state of California just got its ass kicked for writing an unconstitutional law - it tried to stop IMDB publishing actors dates on birth, on the grounds this facilitated industry wide discrimination.

It was always going to be a bit of a stupid law, because Wikipedia doesn't have any such concerns. Bizarrely, for reasons of identity theft prevention, they allow people who object to have their precise day/month of birth to be excluded even if commonly known - they still however treat the year of birth as public domain knowledge.

One wonders why the State even bothered, given Wikipedia's dominance of the information space. They're appealing anyway, which sounds like a waste of taxpayer's money.
