There's something endearing about how much wikipedia is meant to represent the democratization of academia, which is in practice a series of incredibly petty arguments among tens of thousands of obsessive boors
I sometimes say: "Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia that devotes more care and attention to Optimus Prime than Franz Kafka and produces an endless stream of partisans to ruthlessly police the orthodoxy of the former."
It wasn't 12,000 edits or whatever, it was mostly a petty snipe-fest over Alberta's visibility as "rat free" on this map. Started in 2007 and still going on.
