and speaking of incompetence.....

A friend in Australia was complaining on email about the TAFE system there (that's what they call the vocational school system). His disgusted comments about the one in Adelaide made me wonder how Wikipedia was handling it. Well....I discovered it was REALLY bad.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TAFE_South_Australia

Despite existing since 2005, it says almost nothing--except for a paragraph about a 2017 scandal. It used to be a lot bigger and had a list of all the many, many TAFE SA facilities with links (it's a huge organization), but some lunatic removed most of it in 2018.

Look in the little cracks of WP and you will find deletionist assholes like "Mean as custard". Whilst deleting gigabytes of "WP:ADVERT" material, usually deservedly, the mechanical little prick also removes some useful and legitimate information. Been doing it constantly since 2009 and is never even noticed, except for one accidental block in 2013.....

So where's the article about Jaroslav Juhan, famed 1950s race driver turned tire inventor?

https://www.theautopian.com/this-is-the ... rformance/
It may seem strange that one of the most interesting tire experiments in history isn’t even on its creator’s Wikipedia page, but if JJD Twin Tyres became commonplace, would they really be as interesting?
All I can find are mentions under races he was in and a brief article on Czech Wikipedia. Yes, it still does not mention anything other than his racing. He is eminently google-able so there is NO excuse for this shit.

Hairspray, 1988 film by John Waters. ctrl+f camp

nothing at all about "camp" in this article about a film by John Waters, aka the king of campy (or the queen of schlock, depending on who you ask).

Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996

reading through this, one can learn that foreign nationals who overstay their visas for one day lose their eligibility permanently, while those who overstay for six months lose their eligibility for only three years. ✨ behold ✨
[...] lawfully admitted nonimmigrants who overstay their visas by one day or longer became ineligible for a new nonimmigrant visa.[8] If the period of overstay ranged from 180-365 days, the noncitizen would face a 3-year bar to reentry, and an overstay of more than 365 days would require a 10-year bar.

Cutting to the chase

Post by wexter » Sat May 21, 2022 2:36 pm

Most Wikipedia articles are so disorganized they never come to the point, have a point, have a conclusion, or differentiate between main and subsidiary points. Wikipedia articles cite random stuff without context, weighting, or critical thinking. The Wikipedia deficiency I describe might be the result of cultural degradation. Even a journalist does not know how to write an essay;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Serwer

I read the following article by Serwer entitled, "Larry Summers called inflation. Here's what he sees next."

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/larry-su ... 32808.html

The main-point of the article is "What Larry Summers sees coming next." was not reached until twenty paragraphs down!

"And so, cutting to the chase," here’s Summers see going forward:
WTF cutting to the chase twenty paragraphs down Serwer you fuckin wanker!

"So I think it's pretty likely that we're going to have a recession sometime within the next two years."

You would think a "journalist" in his sixties learned how to organize an essay when he was in high-school in the 1970's.
The main-point of an article is akin to the directness of Looking into someone else's eyes.

Directness has been replaced by verbose shiftiness. In a "modern writing course I read that, authors may use one sentence to state the main idea clearly, or they may use supporting details to point out and explain the idea. " leaving the reader without oxygen to fish-flop around to figure stuff out.

Details, details, narrative, details, narrative, bias, details, biased conclusion, details details, narrative. This is what happens when you grow up with lead in leaded gasoline. Lead water pipes may have contributed to the downfall of Rome.

My conclusion, Wikipedia sucks, but it might be that "As long as you realize you live in a third world dystopia you won't have any problems at all," The real conclusion; information without organization, the ability to look into the eye of a main point, means that everyone has become so confused they are permanently addled.

If a boomer journalist has become addled, like a reptile with heat induced brain damage, don't expect anything from autistic Wiki-idiots.

Tagged for a TOTAL lack of references since 2010:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vectorscope

It's actually a good and accurate article. But someday, judging only from my experience, some deletionist asshole will kill it because there are no "proper references". Deletionists don't fix articles, they don't care. "Deleting is fun and easy!"

stupid article of the week (read the "History" section lol)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otero_County,_New_Mexico

Remember, the place is "historic" because of Holloman AFB, the nearby Trinity site, and the White Sands Missile Range. Some important milestones in aerospace and military development occurred there. Which are red links, barely mentioned on Wikipedia, or only documented in unlinked articles. They force you to dig around.

Want to know how the place was actually founded? Your best bet is this guy's blog:
https://2ndlifemediaalamogordo.town.new ... -athletics

It is one of those little items upon which Wikipedia falls flat. Because Otero County is a military-heavy and politically conservative place, with a history of political weirdness, and also the home of notorious January 6th Capitol protester Couy Griffin (whom you can't read about on Wikipedia), possibly? In fact lots of rural counties in the US have similar crap coverage.

Totally MIssing "Babushka Z"

Google Search Below generates tons of mainstream articles. I heard about her on NPR.. I know that Wiki-morons don't get out much!

https://tinyurl.com/2p9y7b8h

She was basically a confused Babushka being used (against her will) for Russian propaganda; on Video she was carrying a Soviet flag and refused food from the Ukrainian Army thinking they were Russians! The Russians then embraced her as the poster child for their "liberation" of the Ukraine.

Image

She is not as sexy as Miley, does not Twerk very well, and has no Teeth; hence no Wikipedia article.

For the past month and a half Hawkeye7 has been putting a LOT of work into expanding this article.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Pluto

But what the hell is this?
The fuel particles of the urania-zirconia-yttria mixture (known as "horseradish" were mostly from 0.5 to 1 micrometer (2.0×10−5 to 3.9×10−5 in) in size, although some were smaller or larger.[13] The uranium was in the form of oralloy: uranium enriched to 93.2 percent uranium-235).[14]
The process of making horseradish involved mixing sinterable BeO powder with oralloy uranyl nitrate, yttrium nitrate and zirconium nitrate to form a slurry which was coprecipitated by adding ammonium nitrate.
I don't think horseradish is made of toxic and radioactive chemicals. Unless this is 1950s "nerd humor"?

Said article is packed with quite stupid typos. And should not be nominated for "Good Article" yet, dammit.

I see your nuclear horseradish and raise you some Nasal Napalm.

There is no lunatic in the lunatic asylum willing to enforce the rules (eg: no original research) on said lunatic (Hawkeye7).
