https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?ti ... arknipples
This strange kerfuffle resulted when girl Administrator Valeree tried to push the repeatedly rebuffed narrative that Wikipedia is a professional environment, and therefore they probably shouldn't have users with names like "Darknipples", because, well, if you need that explained to you, I feel genuinely sorry for you.
She was unsuccessful. Nobody but nobody wants to actually compel Mr Darknipples to change their username to something less sexist, it's being approached as his choice, and my most favourite reason why - he's had it a while. Brilliant. Again, if you need it explained to you why that's so funny, maybe a career in Wikipedia criticism isn't for you. I'm just sayin' /Maher, Bill.
And naturally, for her troubles, Valeree was rather predictably made the scapegoat, not the victim. See, it was HER fault that the MAN got angry at how she pointed out his OFFENSIVE username so he can hardly be blamed for calling her UGLY in response, right? Makes perfect sense. It was an emotional reaction, which, when it's a man reacting to a woman, is perfectly OK, all right?

Rather hilarious that three years into the Jess Wade era, they still don't see how blind they all are to their overt sexism. One of the chief guilty parties is literally the old white dude given power on Wikipedia because hey, he's popular and sounds reasonable to all the others there. I bet he fucking is and does.
He seems to be making a habit these days of wandering around Wikipedia doing his best impression of a bewildered grandad for whom the world is moving too fast and can't you crazy kids just stop changing things already? He wants the Mobile Editor switched off, because he has at least figured out how to use his smartphone to edit Wikipedia (in Desktop mode). What a surprise, Grandad has surprisingly good eyesight, so everyone who isn't like Grandad, can fuck off.
I have a better idea Cullen. Go back the 50s, where you fucking belong. And I reckon I'm not even that much older that that dinosaur bastard. It will be his upbringing, I bet. And wasn't he the one whose wife cleaned him out and ran off to Vegas? Nope, Dennis Brown. Very similar views on the changing times at Wikipedia though, unsurprisingly.
Of course, the more important view from a veteran and powerful Administrator was from Bishonen. She doesn't just talk, she gives effect to the status quo. The culture as it is, not how it should be. Proving yet again that there is always an exception to the rule, and that women can have power on Wikipedia, just as long as they're prepared to not just be as bad as the men, but be worse, she has swopped in an unbocked Mr Darknipples, offering him "time served" for calling a women editor "ugly". We know why she does this - because if the Wikipedia culture was ever to change and men could no longer get away with claiming they were baited into being assholes by uppity women who don't know their place, she'd lose half her powebase overnight. I call her Queen of Wikipedia, but Queen of The Assholes would also suit her.
It might help in these scenarios if Jess Wade actually did what the press stupidly think she is on Wikipedia to do, and combatted actual sexism rather than filling up the encyclopedia with poorly sourced shite and getting book deals off the back of it. But no, she has instead chosen to be a victim herself, becoming a scared little recluse, a relative mute, who talks to nobody and works with nobody. The complete opposite of what a Wikipedia editor is supposed to be. Which is no big loss, because back when she had a voice and used it, her temper and her ignorance were more of a hindrance to the feminist cause than a help.
Which brings me back to the point. It's all very well Valeree vehemently complaining about "Darknipples", but it reminded me of the case of "GirthSummit"....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia ... e's_oppose
.....another obviously snigger snigger sexual jokey name, made all the worse because the asshole behind it made up some really lame excuse for it, claiming "girth" was a workplace nickname because he's a fat bastard, and "summit" because he decided to do something about it and chose fell running.
Indeed, all the excuses seen here, are the same as back then. I just saw another identical one - there is nothing inherently sexual or even gendered about these words, so how could anyone possibly be offended by them? Yeah, OK. People aren't stupid. But this is Wikipedia. Saying stupid shit right to your face, and acting like you're the crazy person, is their speciality. Otherwise known as gaslighting.
I mean, it's fucking ridiculous, the fat bastard running up mountains explanation sounds totally made up, but even if it wasn't, on what planet are people going to know (or care) that this obscure origin story is what lies behind his username? They are entitled to assume it is merely a childish sexual reference, a product of Wikipedia's famous locker room culture.
Made all the worse when he became an Administrator. Imagine a woman editor being told to stop doing something by a man (teenage boy?) with a username that sounds like he wants her to summit his girth? Or even submit, as my autocorrect prompted me to realise is how that could be easily misread.
Funnily enough, "he's had it a long time" was trotted out back then too.
So, anyway, looking back, it appears Valeree had a slightly different opinion......
She doesn't find it offensive?Purely for informational purposes for GS, the name reads as possibly a sexual reference to this US woman. Others' mileage may vary. I don't find it offensive and don't object to it as a user name, but it's not just Mr E who it appeared that way to. --valereee (talk) 16:49, 21 October 2019 (UTC)
Interesting.
I wonder why that is, exactly. What is so inherently offensive about "DarkNipples" that is not present in "GirthSummit"?
They're either both childish sexual references, with the potential to offend women, or neither is.
Can't have it both ways.....
Well, you can, said the bishop to the actress, but that's another story entirely.....

There's no point asking our brothers at Wikipediocracy to comment on this wierd shit. We know where they stand. All the boys together eh Jake? What happens in the locker room, stays in the locker room. But also, defend Jess Wade, claim she's doing nothing wrong and harming nobody with her BLP vilating biographies, but pretend like you're not saying such obvious garbage because you want to sleep with her.
I only just realised, they like her because she's the sort of feminist any established Wikipedia editor would like for her inoffensiveness (and ineffectiveness) - she quietly messes around with the content, but stays silent about the locker room culture. So she makes Wikipedia look good, like it's changing its sexist culture, without making the boys angry by calling them out for casual sexism that is still ongoing. Yes, now I see it.
Stung by all the petty accurate accusations of sexism and misogyny, the press probably thinks Wikipedia already swiftly acts these days when an issue like Darknipples being a long standing username comes up, especially if the response of the user is a childish insult. And why would they think otherwise, you won't find this stuff included in what Wikipediocracy considers the dark conrers of Wikipedia to be uncovered. They're completely unaware that a man called "GirthSummit", who was only promoted to Admin relatively recently I might add, and certainly well after Wikipedia and sexism became a thing, is the one trusted to judge whether "Darknipples" is a problem as a user name for Wikipedia in 2021.
Very clever Jake. That's some next level selling out there.
