I read an interesting piece over on Medium the other day.
It was about an IT company and their senior coder / developer. He wasn't always popular [far from it, at times], but people generally felt his pros outweighed the cons.
Staff retention at the company was a fair bit lower than industry average, and the owners often wondered why they were unable to recruit more Grade-A talent.
And then one day they kicked out their senior coder / developer. Unfortunately he'd become too obnoxious for his own good.
The effect on company culture was both astonishing and rapid: staff retention shot up; highly-skilled professionals bombarded HR with their resumes; productivity soared, as did the quality of goods and services delivered.
