Brian McNeil--"Mistah Kurtz, he dead"

Post by ericbarbour » Tue Sep 21, 2021 9:55 pm

McNeil was one of the meanest, rottenest, most abusive Wikipedians I've ever seen. Which is a major achievement. Literally the Kurtz of Wikinews.

He ran Wikinews for a few years like a furious, violent little king. Tolerated because he had an admin "supporter" there (Blood Red Sandman, a fellow Scot who was active on Wikinews until August 2020 and could easily have been his sockpuppet or shared with someone else), and most of all, had the full and unquestioning support of Cirt. McNeil was an avowed leftist who routinely ran hit-pieces against conservative politicians, especially American ones (despite being a Scotsman), bitched constantly about Boris Johnson, and posted anti-Scientology items. No wonder Cirt and the "cabal" loved him.

And McNeil did this in 2010--to another Wikinews administrator.

McNeil turned Wikinews over to Laura Hale, Pi zero (who also died early this year) and Cirt in 2013. Upon checking into McNeil's recent "editing"/shitposting, I find that he bailed on Wikinews and en-WP in 2017 and his accounts were locked in 2019 for "lack of activity". Looked at his talkpages--full of current and former Wikipedia insiders piddling about "poor Brian". Apparently he died on 4 July 2020 "abruptly". No one remarked about his history of INCREDIBLE shrieking abuses of power on Wikinews. The only notice was a brief one buried deep in the Signpost.

Look at the talkpages. Guy Chapman, Sue Gardner, Frank Schulenberg, Erik Moeller, Cary Bass, Florence Devouard, etc. showed up to post condolences. All of these fuckers knew what he was doing on Wikinews and they STILL treat him like a "valued member of the Wikimedia movement/cult".

DISGUSTING.

The original announcement was posted on Facebook, which is quite common for older WP editors. And since Facebook is shitting the bed today, you'll have to try the link later.

(side note: I'm beginning to suspect that, posted or not, many of the Wikipedians who passed away in 2020 and 2021 were nailed by Covid. Hasteur was for certain. No one on WP seems to want to discuss THAT little detail. Notices of Covid deaths are also commonly posted on Facebook. If you care, dig in and look for more info--and good luck. Few websites are quicker to censor than Facebook.)

FB finally starting working again. And as I suspected, the announcement of his demise has been removed already. All that remains are his posts prior to July 4. Usually looking like this. (A raft of his past splutterings were also disappeared, leaving this kind of thing. I seriously wonder if he had high blood pressure along with his perma-rage, and suffered a massive stroke.)
