Cullen unloads on Martin Urbanec

Post by ChaosMeRee » Wed Nov 15, 2023 1:41 am

Holy cow. The absolute hilarity of Cullen choosing to become a secret paid consultant is NEVER going to get old.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?ti ... tabrain%22

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?ti ... anec_(WMF)

Who in the right mind would pay $75 an hour for advice from an Administrator who, in ONE INCIDENT, displayed the following EPIC FAILS......

* Failing to appreciate indefinitely blocked users are entitled to mentorship (in several cases such users obtain an unblock on condition of mentorship) - they are not banned, and policy is clear, a return to productivity is the only purpose of the block.

* Failing to assume good faith, to jump straight to a conclusion that Martin was running an unauthorised bot and was deliberately ignoring Cullen's complaints. Both are very serious accusations. Neither were true. The "bot" was actually a MediaWiki maintenance script being run on Martin's account precisely so he could be alerted to any concerns in how this COMMUNITY REQUESTED function was performing. And Martin wasn't ignoring Cullen, he was ASLEEP. Seriously, if you can believe it, Cullen left Martin SIX messages despite having absolutely no reason to suspect Martin had even seen the first. After still seeing no reply he then escalated it to AN/I, a mere 5 and a half hours after the first message, despite this not being an emergency (Cullen being angry is not an emergency).

* Failing to be DE-ESCALATING AT ALL TIMES (a.k.a failing to keep your temper in check). Specifically, continually emphasising the fact Martin is a "paid staffer" and Cullen is a "hard working unpaid volunteer", a clear and obvious attempt to bring emotional blackmail and long standing Wikipedia divisions into a dispute where Cullen was clearly spoiling for a fight and wanted to muster a posse to hang a sworn enemy.

* Failing to provide a full and sincere apology (and waiting until others had pointed out you had been a proper cunt before you apologise). Cul!an eventually apologised TEN HOURS after he had got a response from Martin. He only apologised for his "nasty tone". He wasn't just nasty, his crimes went as far as persistent and repeated attacks, emotional blackmail and trying to start a riot. His apology was only offered alongside several attempted justifications. He does not get a free pass for these crimes because he lacks the experience and technical knowledge to interpret the Wikipedia interface. He does not get a free pass because he had let his bad faith and technical ignorance work himself into a frenzy ("I left six messages over an hour and a half and was quite irritated over the lack of a response.").

* Failure to appreciate that YOU NO LONGER HAVE ANY MORAL HIGHGROUND OVER A "PAID" STAFFER when you yourself have been making money from Wikipedia. Especially when all you do to earn that lucrative amount is talk about a community whose rules you still cannot abide by, but your target earns his money ("cashing [his] generous paycheck") by actually doing things the community you are supposedly a part of has specifically asked for.

The really sad thing in all this, is the latest reminder of just how weak and pathetic the WMF has become post-Framgate. Martin just rolls over and takes a proper beating. He shouldn't meet fire with fire, but he should not be ignoring clear and obvious, egregious, conduct violations.

This was a particularly horrific example of what happens when you let Wikipedians govern themselves, in some naive fantasy that volunteers have any motive to hold their allegedly most trusted Administrators to account. Cullen is the guy who makes their lives easier by blocking their enemies.

To leave it to ArbCom is to expect Beeblebrox to hold him to account. Never gonna happen.

If the WMF won't rediscover their moral obligation to keep these assholes under control through direct application of their legal authority, others will gladly do it for them.

I will go even further. Cul!en is clearly on the edge. I have absolutely no problem sending the fucker over it.

I bet Cul!en, asshole that he is, has absolutely no idea that in his volunteer role, Martin is part of the effort to prevent that calamity.

That's the difference between being a volunteer and being paid. Employees do the things that must be done (but they don't necessarily want to do). And if they do not, there are consequences. Real consequences.

Cullen has faced absolutely no consequences for this latest spectacular failure to meet not just the expected standards of Administrators (keep your cool, think, de-escalate, own your failings) but the MINIMUM standard expected of editors (assume good faith, don't be a raging asshole, don't start riots).

For THIS man to charge for advice about Wikipedia, is FRAUD.

Assuming as we must the his course doesn't tell people to do the exact opposite of what he does, because he's a pompous, arrogant, entitled piece of shit.

Ha ha ha, what maroons. Livnig proof that WMF employees are often useless or worse--and that "high ranking" administrators can be even less tolerable than those WMF employees.

Maybe Cullen's tantrums should be encouraged. Get his miserable ass dragged to Arbcom as soon as possible.
