Results are in, so now we know the make-up of the 2024 Arbitration Committee.....
1. Aoidh
2. Barkeep49
3. Cabayi
4. CaptainEek
5. Firefly
6. GeneralNotability
7. Guerillero
8. HJ Mitchell
9. L235
10. Maxim
11. Moneytrees
12. Primefac
13. Sdrqaz
14. ToBeFree
15. Z1720
Immediately obvious is the shockingly lop sided nature of the thing. Almost dangerously skewed to complete novices or only very recent experience. There is now an absolute majority (8) or highly inexperienced members, with a whopping 6 rookies and 2 sophomores. The rookies are Aoidh, Firefly, HJ Mitchell, Sdrqaz, ToBeFree, Z1720. The sophomores are GeneralNotability and Moneytrees.
Four of the rookies also have a incredibly short Administrator careers, ranging from just 10 to 22 months. Not unknown, but this many, and all at once? They can't all be undiscovered rock stars or rocket scientists. They almost certainly are not.
Of the now minority! of seven "experienced" members (I'm laughing as I type it because I know what's coming), not a single one has served more than three years as an Arbitrator. Holy. And. Shit. I think NewYorkBrad had that in his left nutsack, did he not? And only one has any service prior to 2020, which is Guerillero. Ridic. Ulous.
The full break down of the issues with that seven's experience gets really scary, but is quite niche, so I'll just skim. Cabayi should not be in a class of his own as a competent former rookie now looking to drop that difficult second album, but he is. Your core group of de facto veterans should not be so small (four - Barkeep49, CaptainEek, L235, Primefac), or be on identical service tracks, all elected in January 2021 and immediately re-elected in January 2023. It is a cliff edge in the making and a sign too many people know only the same stuff.
And in all honesty, why even waste time pretending Maxim or Guerillero are bringing anything special to the party for their limited differences to the rest, notably as the only ones to be returning Arbs, rather than unbroken service from rookie term to second term (the four plus Cabayi). They have still only both done three years in country. Just like the four.
Maxim only had a year off and so is only one year ahead/behind the four. He will do four years in five if he makes it, while the four will do four in four, if they make it. All very insane. And his break feels like a selfish act of self interest, not a group benefit, since he seems to work very differently to the four. Behind the scenes, on his own, to his own schedule. And he's seemingly getting electoral benefits from it that don't truly compare him to the four as Arbitrators alone. Worrying if true.
As for Guerillero as the Wise Old Hand and keeper of institutional memory, come on. He is but one man, his historical service was as a rookie, and his electoral performance is woeful. Two wins from six attempts, and both very poor showings, as both rookie and returnee. He cannot and he should not seek any limelight or influence beyond the four. He should only quietly offer a different perspective if he truly believes that is what his distance gives him. And I severely doubt it did. But he may really annoy people if he pushes it.
All in all, pretty disturbing for the believers.
