No I don't support a return to feudalism.
I just know that housing is one of those items that people will go into ANY AMOUNT OF DEBT for. So they sign these lifelong debt schemes and most never fully own their homes.
A minority of Americans own their homes outright.
This was also true when home building was outstripping population expansion decades ago. I don't see it as a demand and supply problem. Increasing supply won't fix the fact that people will charge as much as they think they can get away with for life necessities in a market.
Japan does just fine with public housing, including to today. They don't make headlines like our underfunded garbage cans. They have a government that didn't give up on it. As a result, their homeless rate is basically 0. They still have insecurity and under-housing issues due to the same global market forces seen around the world, which i think they could solve by expanding their very successful public housing program.
