If all the brands and celebs who allegedly hate Musk left to a new platform, Twitter would actually have an existential problem. Twitter's only distinguishing feature is that it's a brand and celebrity site, a place where you can worship or dunk on professionals and elites 24/7 and without delay.badmachine wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 9:57 amprediction: nothing will come of it, sadlyOgnistysztorm wrote: ↑Sat Dec 03, 2022 5:47 amThis is big. Politics aside, this is really the Hollywood moment for Big Tech. I heard somewhere that you have a book in the works that pulls a similar fashion against Wikipedia; maybe it's time to resuscitate and publish it now that public opinion will turn against Big Tech?

Re: Twitter's decline
Twitter is still losing ad revenue, down 59% over about a year. And as of a couple months ago.

Many prominent journalists and news organizations also seem to be leaving Twitter or at least scaling back. But few celebrities are.

Re: Twitter's decline
Now Musk is suing everyone within striking distance
-Meta (Since he cannot do he sues)
-Twitter's takeover defense firm
And he agreed to price-fix Tesla cars in the Chinese Market
-He has no problem violating the Sherman Act
-He had to deep discount the cars into the Chinese market - as a result of price cuts the existing owners of Tesla lost face (as the car they purchased lost some luster as an elite luxury vehicle - Folks in China buy Tesla cars without a pot to piss in for face)
Twitter and Wikipedia - there is nothing proprietary other than a large user-base and a large volume of data respectively.
Wikipedia and Tesla - In terms of Wikipedia there is restraint of trade on the part of Google via search prioritization. Musk ventures exploit and depend on government inputs worldwide.

Every person who shall monopolize, or attempt to monopolize, or combine or conspire with any other person or persons, to monopolize any part of the trade or commerce among the several States, or with foreign nations, shall be deemed guilty of a felony, and, on conviction thereof, shall be punished by fine not exceeding $100,000,000 if a corporation, or, if any other person, $1,000,000, or by imprisonment not exceeding 10 years, or by both said punishments, in the discretion of the court.
In parallel AI is getting push-back in class action litigation for harvesting data on the web.Elon Musk’s Tesla offered customers a cash rebate just one day after pledging to end the ‘reckless’ EV price war in China and support Beijing’s ‘core socialist values’

Re: Twitter's decline
It feels like Musk is purposefully driving Twitter off a cliff. He pretty much admitted as much in his now infamous interview where he flips everyone the bird, including advertisers.
He's also trolling virtually all his own users. Sometimes in an admittedly funny way. Last thing was when he declared that all reaction farming would be banned and perpetrators personally hunted down. He said it seemingly more to piss off people than to be sarcastic. Like that's the whole purpose of Twitter, reaction farming, so everyone started raging in his replies. The guy who operated the @anonymous account (aubrey?) seemed particularly pissed at that tweet. Now I can't even read tweets because of Nitter going away but it was all in pretty bad shape when I left. Felt like trolls, anti-semites, and various other muskchan people picking away at a carcass.
Also, they still haven't moved the URL to X.com, so dunno why journos keep saying "formerly known as Twitter". Corporate over there still seems to prefer it be thought of as Twitter rather than X. Also, Grok will fail, same with whatever banking thing they have planned.

Not only is X-shitter filling up with (even worse than ever) shit.....because your feed is "tailored for your miserable personality", you have to go to Reddit or Facebook to find out what's really happening.

It's now entirely "X", including the domain name, starting a few hours ago.
And also Firefox with tracking-blocking doesn't work on it now, unless you turn on tracking. Just gives you a big message suggesting to turn off tracking.

Re: Twitter's decline
At that same time, they cracked down on my old account, which dates from 2009. They made NUMEROUS demands for multi-factor authentication. After fighting thru that mess and logging in, I found that my feed was totally different--instead of accounts I had followed or commented on in the past, it was now full of (mostly right-wing) political "astroturf" crap. Everything from Charlie Kirk to Laura Loomer to even Alex Jones and Democratic Party operatives. Phony "polling organizations" galore, all pushing Trump or Biden. Plus a bunch of professional sports channels. I had to manually block all of this.
And inevitably, I started seeing Musk's posts and posts by his deranged fanboys. Tesla, Tesla, Tesla.

Re: Twitter's decline
this happened to me too. there are two tabs, one says 'following' and the other says 'for you'. i think it defaults to the 'for you' tab so u have to press 'following' to see what people you follow are tweeting.
