Do social workers actually do social work?

Was browsing social workers on psychology today to message social workers, again
Social workers, definition: Someone employed to provide social services (especially to the disadvantaged).
I got a few responses
Result: They seem to be wannabe, niche talk therapy psychologists, each catering to some easy, bland, or topical demographic. I have not seen any specialize in the "disadvantaged". In fact, the last that emailed me seems to only work with CEOs.

that kind of social worker usually are on staff at hospitals and places that deal with homelessness, poverty, AIDS, and mental health etcetera. this kind of social worker would probably not be found in Psychology Today (although im not sure what Psychology Today is listing)

i cant imagine "easy" demographics would need a social worker, and im truly puzzled at what a social worker for a CEO would provide.

have never met one and been in a mental hospital like 6 times, at 4 different locations, so i dunno wtf they do all day cuz they aren't there. i have a feeling a lot of them work in government, trying to take people OFF social programs through facilitating social program means testing.

They told me they help with CEO burnout but also said they'd allow to see me if I paid them $350 out of pocket, I'm not making this shit up.
Out of 17 I messaged on PsychologyToday only 3 responded, that person, some copy-paste reply, and someone quoting me something more standard.

if i had to guess, i would say that is because (regardless of mental health) you
probably dont have cognition/alcohol/drug issues, and if i had to guess again, you probably dont live in poverty. social workers handle social ills like poverty, inability to keep up with rent utilities etc.
if any of that stuff does apply to you, you probably would have met a social worker shortly before discharge.

CEO burnout? well im not surprised they want to charge you $350. social workers typically are poorly paid (not mine though, mine are funded through government grants for AIDS, poverty, etc) and i could understand them overcharging a CEO to make up for some of that. nursing has a similar phenomenon but it isnt handled through social work. i wish i had better answers.

I am indeed in poverty with a drug issue
and I agree they nominally help with those things, I just haven't seen any evidence of that except them trying to find reasons to take people OFF social programs
Their profession seems like a load of BS tbh, I know some work at homeless shelters for example, which are straight up abusive places. One of those "we know what's best for you, forfeit all your stuff. take all these additional addictive drugs we force on you and then MAYBE we'll help u more"

oh, i shouldnt have been presumptive. if you have low income, get on the welfare, and while applying at the welfare office, look for the brochures that list services for food banks, legal aid, whether or not you want/need those, but depending on how thorough the brochure is, they probably list at least a couple of social workers in it. thats all the advice i got. :/

no, from personal experience they help me get/stay onto anything/everything i am eligible for, and it is something i omitted above: eligibility for welfare, and connecting the clients with programs outside of welfare, e.g.: Ryan White Fund, free clothing and groceries via local charities, legal aid, etcetera. in sacramento county we have a 311 line that helps connect residents with such workers. perhaps your area has something similar.

SSI rubs me the wrong way because of the $2k asset limit and psychiatry mandates. Nothing against people who use it though.
I'm probably eligible for food stamps but my income changes so much it'd be yet another case worker to annoy with income changes.

I might need to use that number, thanks.
