The Sanders US political coalition seems dead

Post by journo » Sun Jan 19, 2025 11:02 am

Going out arguing for his policy feels lonely nowadays, like it was before he first ran for president. I know a total of 3-4 original followers of his in my IRL life. The first claims she is now an independent who doesn't care much about politics and refuses to talk about politics, claiming she's "moved on and that was when I was young". (Note, this person used to be the head of one of the largest IRL young Democrats groups). The second become a Harris fanatic and the only policy position she cares about is being anti-Trump. The third complains about homeless people every time I see him, and is apparently now doing security work for Trump. The rest are completely silent.

This mirrors what I see online. I feel a lot, if not most of his followers were just hoping for student loan forgiveness, didn't get it, integrated themselves into the system and are no longer particularly outwardly critical of it. In fact, the opposite, they seem to just be doing supportive work for whoever the ruling elite is in at least one major corporate funded party.
