That would be nice but not essential. It seems that no one can guarantee a phpBB plug-in for older version will work with a newer version. And we can't demand a refund because "hey, it's free software" blah blah.

I didn't consider anything that wasn't included in the phpbb customization database as some kind of clue to its level of support but mileage may vary .. it seems very similar to Thank

If it helps at all: the Muff Wiggler forum was nuked on Tuesday by very similar update problems. It was a heavily customized PHPBB install but had been up since 2007 and had been stable for years. They too are struggling with PHPBB updates breaking things. Finally managed to bring it back up today but are stuck with the ugly default theme. The PHPBB developers are continuing to deny it was a "problem".

(That forum is VERY damn busy. 1000 posts per day is normal.)

I presume there was a little bug in the forum software the last day's, Eric?
