Wikipedia has cancer

Madam pointed at this interesting Signpost article of Guy Macon.
Nothing can grow forever, even cancer.

Nothing, really nothing, nothing can grow for ever, Guy is right.
Not the growing perverse money streams, not the wiki data sausage factory, nothing.
So what are we doing here?
The same as what the people in the Decameron did. We are just waiting.
Enjoying the view, chat a bit, tell each other story's to kill the time.
We are waiting here for the end.
The end of the corona virus epidemic, the end of the wiki data sausage factory.
Because nothing can grow for ever as Guy claims, there is always a end.
It is only very hard to predict when that end comes, but I guarantee you all, it will come.
Nothing can grow forever, even cancer.
Really, nothing. If we want to avoid disaster, we need to start shrinking the cancer now, before it is too late. We should make spending transparent, publish a detailed account of what the money is being spent on and answer any reasonable questions asking for more details. We should freeze spending increases to no more than inflation plus a percent or two, build up our endowment, and restructure the endowment so that the WMF cannot dip into the principal when times get bad.
