slobbering for money AGAIN

Post by ericbarbour » Thu Jun 04, 2020 8:28 am

American cities are burning, Covid is still killing....and what is Wikimedia doing?
Putting more giant banner ads begging for $$$$$ at the top. Unavoidable.

Although they have indeed provided much useful knowledge to the world, as long as:
  • Jimbo Wales succumbs to social pressure and takes zero action against abusive administrators such as Bbb23
  • Deletionism (WP:G5, WP:G13) destroys knowledge before Deletionpedia or EverybodyWiki even have a chance of rescuing it.
  • Administrators are allowed to shit on prolific editors and use logic-terminating buzzwords such as "trolling" and "sealioning"
,

I feel no incentive to give any cent.

[Wikipedia is] a stupid video game, and the "encyclopedia" is an accidental byproduct.

Banhappy

Another thing is that Wikipedia administrators are inherently ban-happy but not unban-happy because only the former gives them a dopamine kick.

It's getting to the point where they are running these stupid things on a quarterly basis. And no way to predict when the begging starts/stops.

I won't even think about donating 1 £/€/¥/$, as long as Wikipedia is a WP:G5 and WP:G13 deletionist cesspool with abusive administration.

They backed off for a few months, but this is now constantly running, and I suspect it will be permanent

9 months after the last one: there were some banners briefly in April but none since Still no "pattern".

Two days ago the begging started up again. This time, they figured out how to do animated pop-ups. Wonder how many "developers" were required to make this happen.

These are still running as of today, the 8th of October.

Still "Globally Banned" on Wikipedia for the high crime of journalism.

the giant top banner is re-enabled again.

I've seen people complaining about pop-up ads on other websites, posted on actual Wikipedia talkpages and noticeboards. Now the WMF is doing it on their little empire AND RIGHT IN THEIR FACES. Ha.
