Ivan vector loses his job
According to WP:BN Ivanvector lost his job...like terminated abruptly and couldn't clear his history so was concerned someone could access his Wikipedia account. I wondervifvhis using his work computer to edit Wikipedia had anything to do with getting terminated!

Re: Ivan vector loses his job
links for reference, he has been an admin since December 2016

Yes, I would say the chances are good that he was terminated for grinding WP at work. Not a very "good" or busy admin even. Only about 38k edits since 2009, a few hundred edits per month (versus some nuts I've seen who do that every day), mostly goes around banning and threatening, most of the "edits" were on noticeboards and talkpages etc. Did very little content work. (This is unquestionably not his first or only account.) I don't see the usual signs of bot use to inflate the edit count, making him "old fashioned". And if he lost his job for it, hey now he's a sucker.

I've been terminated from my employment and was not given the opportunity to clear logins on my work computer before being escorted out. Please remove the sysop flag from my account until I can assure my account is secure, and please waive the hold period if there is one. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 13:56, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
I am sorry to hear about that Ivan. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 14:00, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
FWIW Ivanvector most sites will invalidate all user sessions when you change your password, including the one on your work computer, but I don't know how MediaWiki behaves in that regard. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 14:18, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
In my case, if I log out of my session on one device, I find myself logged out of all of my sessions at all devices.--Ymblanter (talk) 14:29, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
@Ivanvector and ProcrastinatingReader: MediaWiki does not have per-session logouts yet (it's been held up as "not required"/"insecure" last I checked), so yes, logging out anywhere logs out all sessions. --qedk (t 愛 c) 15:34, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
For-the-record: I can confirm MediaWiki does reset all session on logouts, and all other sessions on password changes. Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 16:09, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
I've done that for you Ivanvector. Let us know when you feel the account is secure again. SilkTork (talk) 14:09, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks everyone. The job situation is ultimately positive, though I don't think anyone enjoys job-hunting. I have already reset my sessions on WMF sites, but I'm more concerned about there being a saved password on the work laptop that someone might accidentally log in and then leave it open. I have 2FA and use a password manager and I've already invalidated those sessions, but I'm going to change all my important passwords before I'm confident that all is secure. Oh, for a second I thought you'd quit as an admin. Please don't ever do that. PS, I've been job-hunting for about 20 years now - the only thing I enjoy less is having a job (cue the Smiths)... well, good luck! --IamNotU (talk) 03:46, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
Ivanvector - I'm sorry to hear about your job situation. I hope you can find greener pastures soon... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 10:44, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Re: Ivan vector loses his job
It is routine to see office workers sitting in front of work computers with FB, Twitter, IG, games etc. running. Apparently some employers have given up and are tolerating it. If they can't do it on the desk PC they'll use their phones, and work will still not be done....or something like that....

Re: Ivan vector loses his job
Yes, his contribution history does show that he was spending large amounts of time on Wikipedia during his work hours. Apparently, his employer escorted him to the door immediately upon informing him that he was terminated, and were careful to not allow him to touch his work computer. Looks like he intends on getting right back into his Wikipedia addiction at his next job.
