On buying Wikimedia/Wikipedia accounts

Post by ByteOr » Tue Dec 27, 2022 4:28 am

Is there any sensible place on the web where I can buy mass logins of Wikipedia accounts, ones that are preferably aged, either from a data breach or made by a bot.

How about extended confirmed accounts, or bulk semi-confirmed? How much would these go for a single account, specifically ECP ones? Those would either have to be manually made or from a breach, because the amount of manual effort has to be very high due to them being 2% of en.wikipedia.org accounts.

If anyone knows something about this, please reply or PM me.

Moved this thread since I would like to see more discussion of this VERY TABOO subject.

In the dirty holes of the internet, you can supposedly buy anything. I would not be surprised if there was a "black site" on TOR that was selling Wikipedia sock accounts. It's a giant evil supermarket. "Aisle 6, right next to the 8-year-old girls for sex slavery", no doubt. If you openly asked this on any WP noticeboard, I expect you would be banned quickly. Because DENIAL IS TRUTH.

There are NUMEROUS firms offering to edit WP for pay. Some of them are run by longtime successful Wiki asslickers, such as William Beutler and Pete Forsyth and Sarah Stierch, so they operate with near-complete impunity. Again, they all know this is happening, but will deny it loudly if asked. You could inquire with Beutler or Forsyth's companies, if you're really serious. They might tell you to fuck off, or they might be desperate for money and thus willing to help you. Dunno.

And there are others. Many. (Ask me about Mike Wood and his company!)

Greggie is still "offering his services", I guess.....

I gave up keeping track of all the edit-for-pay outfits. Too many. Some of them openly declare their COI, and some DO NOT. The handling of paid editing by WP officialdom is completely erratic and random anyway.

Read this if you don't believe me. Got plenty more examples.

Is the effort required to get ECP high? Imo, no. It's only 500 edits. Just make 25 edits a day, and have your extended confirmed account in 1 month. Not every edit has to be constructive and sourced. 25 edits a day is nothing really. Don't sandbox edits, talk page discussions, and noticeboard/proposal discussions count towards ECP?

Anyway you don't even have to go to the darkweb to find Wiki accounts, they pop up at swapd.co

But really you can make your own ECP account faster than you can get a passport, so why bother spending 1500 on an account.

Edit: just realized OP is looking for large numbers of accounts. Nevermind.

Still "Globally Banned" on Wikipedia for the high crime of journalism.

Hello members!

If you’re interested in getting a Wiki page up, then we’re sorry to say that SWAPD won’t be the place to do it. It seems that there is an internal war going on between Wikipedia providers on SWAPD, and virtually ALL recent completed orders are getting reported and deleted from Wikipedia. To prevent buyers from wasting their money and us from going through the unnecessary hassle, we’re banning Wikipedia creation services from SWAPD starting today.

The ban will last as long as it’s needed until users come to their senses and stop fighting each other. We’re locking down all active listings.

Thank you for understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience.

The problem is it’s all he-said-she-said with these providers. We get bombarded with screenshots and “he did this” and “he did that” messages. No way for us to verify ANY of the claims, nor do we have the time to review these reports. Just easier to cut the cord for us.
i wonder what happened. anyway it does look like you can buy accounts, but cant pay to have an article created:

This is exactly what I would expect to happen. Swapd customers getting screwed by "someone", resulting in Swapd going "we don't need this misery" and banning WP editing services completely. But you can still buy and sell accounts. Note that this happened two and a half years ago.

This was either someone trying to "eliminate the competition", as people on the thread stated. Or maybe it was a WP insider who saw WP edit services for sale on Swapd, and decided to fuck things up and get the practice banned. Third party manipulation. Very much the sort of dirty trick to be expected from the "glorious Wiki-Cult".

See them copying (yet again!) the practices of their despised foes, the Scientologists. Laugh at them for total lack of self-awareness.
