In response;

Arbcom consists of a random bunch of schmoes who sink tremendous amounts of irreplaceable time into Wikipedia.

It should be no surprise that schmoe level outcomes, discussions, decisions, procedures-process, and work-product are resultant.

Add in "the founder," WMF, and Google exploiting schmoes and you gleam most of the story.

The result over twenty years is a massive mess that cannot improve of adjust. The schmoes simply trip over themselves as a fulltime vocation.

It almost looks to me like one or more of the arbitrators have been reading this thread.
And would deny it to their graves.
They appear to have expanded the scope and responsibility of WP's administration by declaring that "misrepresentation of sources" is a user conduct issue, not a content issue.
Their predecessors painted them into this corner. Perhaps they like hiding in corners? Bloody cowards.
Second, they did formally request WMF intervention in the issue. However, they're perversely asking the WMF to write a white paper telling outsiders, including scholars, researchers, and subject-matter experts how to approach WP content disputes. This is laugh-out-loud lunacy.
It goes far beyond mere lunacy. The raging ARROGANCE required to write such drivel must be staggering. Wikipedians evidently think they are more powerful than any academic, political or social figures on earth. For crissakes.....they're janitors on a bloody website. Nobodies, even to most people who edit WP content routinely.
What it comes down to is the content. I predict that the Holocaust scholars will give WP 3-6 months to get the material in question "corrected" or "fixed" and if it isn't, they will take the dispute to the next level.
Hoping they will get serious boycotts and even more aggressive internal interference from the Israeli goverment and pro-Israel extremists. It's already bad, it can get plenty worse.

One wonders where ArbCom even got the fanciful notion that the WMF carries any weight amongst the academic community.
That happened back in 2005 when the Siegenthaler mess happened, followed by the discovery that Congressional workers were editing WP to make their bosses look better. Evidently I need to repost Jimbo's stupid comments from 2006 when people were squabbling about Andy "Karmafist" Sylvia:
"I found this choice gem from Jimmy while looking through old emails about Karmafist:"

"Well, as it is, he is on-notice that I am prepared to go meatspace on him if he keeps it up. Despite his defiant response, he may in the fullness of time realize that acting like a junior revolutonary teenager may not be the best way to influence Wikipedia policy and could very well backfire on him in some serious ways."
"He has two positions, as I understand it. One, minor elected official. Two, head of the Democratic party in his area. I rather suspect that the second job is held at the pleasure of the higher-ups in the state democratic party, and a phone call to someone there might work wonders."
"To date, 3 different Senators have contacted me to randomly suck up to me."
"Smart politicians understand that pissing off Wikipedia is not a good idea."
THAT is where their arrogance comes from. All roads lead back to stupid things Jimbo said or did long ago.

Then they discover that even people like Volunteer Marek are never banned by Wikipedia, there being no real difference between taking fifteen years to ban someone and never banning them at all.
Go and look at the histories of people like Giano, or Eric "Malleus" Corbett, or Geogre. They wrote considerable quantities of good historical content, but were argumentative and would not "bend the knee" to the shithead admins.
Are you that fucking stupid, ArbCom?
OF COURSE THEY ARE

The original author was a strange character too:

Blocked for incivility.

Arbitrator Beeblebrox is taking his ball home, upset that he lost the ban vote 7 to 4.

We assume anyway. Wikipedia transparency is very limited when it comes to explaining such things.

Lawmakers take note.

The doomsday has just begun.

The Holocaust scholars just told Wikipedia that it HAS TO listen to them in writing its articles on that topic:
For Klein, the problem is not the committee itself, but rather that Wikipedia doesn’t have what she considers an appropriate mechanism to address propaganda efforts. She said consulting professional historians should be part of the solution.
They're saying that if WP can't fix itself with its current structure, then outsiders will have to fix it for them, whether WP likes it or not.

Well it's supposed to listen to them. This whole thing is a subversion of policy starting with Piotrus' claim that Wikipedia articles are better references than academic sources. ArbCom didn't touch that one even though it's by far the most poisonous thing in evidence. Even though Piotrus ran the Eastern European Mailing List which is obviously still going on with the same cast of characters. They didn't know GizzyCatBella was Jacurek, uh-huh, ri-i-i-ght. Piotrus is the evil salesman who says sausage is better than steak when he knows firsthand how it's made because he made it himself.

That won't happen. WPers will tear the whole thing apart from within before they take orders from outsiders. Even a minor thing like tighter controls over Holocaust content. Most of them are such arrogant small-minded power addicts they literally cannot understand what it means to "cede any power".

Beeb checking out of Arbcom because a vote didn't go the way HE wanted? Typical.

Would look great on his tombstone;
Here lies Piotr Konieczny
