Vector 2010 will not be restored

I foresee that the next community meltdown will be over the WMF IP-editing changes.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/IP_Edit ... Mitigation
Vector 2022 was just the latest fight in the proxy war of Admins vs WMF.

It is a triangle with three sides: The WMF, the admins, and ArbCom. At any one time, one or more of these sides will be fighting with another. At the middle of this triangle are the people who actually write the Wikipedia that people care about (like Kumioko), they are always under attack from all three sides.

IMHO the interface change and IP masking are nothing-burgers.

Nothing Burger One - IP masking

The WMF is correct that, "changes to privacy laws and standards" in Europe are being applied worldwide and thus are driving policy here in the US. Some US laws regulations, policies, and standards are enforced and applied to/in foreign countries in a way that breaks the idea of sovereignty. It was one of the benefits of having the reserve currency, being an export destination, and carrying the "biggest stick." The GDPR is an example of "reverse" imperialism, harmonization, or cooperation (any way you want to look at it)
"The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the toughest privacy and security law in the world. Though it was drafted and passed by the European Union (EU), it imposes obligations onto organizations anywhere, so long as they target or collect data related to people in the EU. " European Union

The influence of GDPR is apparent on all European websites with; "Five U.S. states ... enforcing new EU-styled data privacy laws in 2023" Stratfor

Nothing Burger Two - Interface Change

Editors discuss things endlessly, go around in circles spouting nonsense, ignore what is said, and they tend to be toxic to each other.

WMF is not going to spend hundreds of man/woman/they/trans hours developing a new skin and then have editors vote their efforts down. All those foundation dollars have to go somewhere! At the end of the day certifiably insane bat shit crazy "circle-jerk" discussions spoken in incomprehensible wikipedia-code and gibberish are usually rationalized and justified to fit into the framework.
355 votes down by morons for the new skin and 226 morons claiming the skin is okidoki
The rationalization is that "there is a consensus," "this is not a democracy," "it is about the weighing of arguments," "this is not a majority vote," and change your settings if you don't like it.. That is it that is all... everyone got to chime in... nuff said.. nothing burger.. business as usual...
The arguments were weighed by "we're going to do this anyway regardless of the consensus." So I guess at least in that regard, you're correct. The arguments were weighed, they were just irrelevant. LeperColony (talk) 01:49, 25 January 2023 (UTC)

Opening fewer threads might have more impact.. quotes and links are usually good... spelling out the point is good as well... perhaps you could go back to editing wikipedia? Okidoki?

Well, the IP thing will almost certainly cause a storm as everyone will be scrambling to get the right so they can continue to patrol.

The IP's will still be there (just masked) on a per session basis..
Who gets access to the IP addresses was mostly resolved in 2021... Admins and their lackeys, and folks trusted by time served and edit counts.

Will the roll-out be smooth? No, Will it be fair? No, Will folks squawk? Yeah..

Most of the anti-vandalism finding tools are automated - editors all rush to the same automated alerts; with nobody checking the content to see if it is really vandalism. .

EB picked up on this (which I missed, even though I looked closely at contributions)
Did Fottrell edit his own bio? You bet.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:C ... blinTalbot

In 2021, "someone else" chopped it down in size considerably:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:C ... Croydon411

You'd think he was "important" or something.

When you look further at Croydon411 you can see he was flagged for being "disruptive" which is a classic retaliatory "move" and thus not really "notable" for mention ..... just same old stuff - nothing burger

Just saying, spend more time reading and researching... you will see the same patterns every time.. no need for new threads that might not be accretive.

yea Wikipedia community overwhelmingly voted to keep the old skin, and stated numerous times the WMF couldn't decide such things for them

and they were wrong again

someone connected to the wmf then came out with a statement more or less comparing Wikipedia to a bunch of children who don't know what's best for them

More drama

Post by Bbb23sucks » Sat Apr 08, 2023 6:16 pm

Note: This post was merged from several other (unnecessary) topics that I have since deleted.

After the close of the close review of the closure of the rollback of the WMF's forced instatement of the Vector 2022 MediaWiki skin, another close review was created to challenge the closure of the previously mentioned close review. After a slim majority !voted in support of maintaining the status quo, such was done.

Also, they have created an even worse version.

Since many WMF employees started by grinding WP, the pot is screaming YOU'RE BLACK at the kettle. Being liars and manipulators and troll-prone autists isn't enough--they also have to be slavering hypocrites.

Someone actually pointed this out on the Village (idiot) Pump, but they were quickly shut down to due to "time wasting". Remember -- The two-megabyte discussion that led to nothing was obviously NOT time wasting, but questioning it clearly is.

In the end, their comment did lead to two closure reviews, but as I said in my previous post, those were both shutdown quickly as well.
