I agree on both points, but it all adds up.

In my opinion, it's way more convenient to run ads to have enough decent money for the operations. With their traffic, it would certainly be a big multiplier to the current revenue, which would enable them to pay more admins and editors.

That's the theory. But if the current operations and some people inside are rotten, it might actually become even worse.

Some people including Mr. Barbour and me privately knew about a serious scandal which if gets on print on news outlets, will literally turn the Internet against Wikipedia overnight, on top of the Holocaust distortion scandals.

I don't know what scandal you're talking about, but I think recent news qualifies as a scandal all by itself.

This piece in the Washington Post is about how ChatGPT and similar bots are training society. It has information on how the chatbots get their data:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technolo ... -learning/

"The three biggest sites were patents.google.com No. 1, which contains text from patents issued around the world; wikipedia.org No. 2, the free online encyclopedia; and scribd.com No. 3, a subscription-only digital library."

They don't "pay" admins and editors. How it works is, you grind as an unpaid volunteer for many years. And suck up to other insiders, and WMF employees, and especially Wales The Unforgivable, for years. If you do it right you'll be hired by the WMF. A "safe sinecure". Or so they seem to be told.

And in many past cases, insiders did exactly that. Then the WMF hired them. And most of those people were either (1) fired, (2) left due to the low pay and bad office morale, or (3) were forced out after creating a major scandal. Try the name "Sarah Stierch" for item number 3.

It isn't really going to "die slowly", it's more than that, due to the Holocaust distortion scandal and another scandal. At least people like Kumioko will finally rest easy as they are gonna be vindicated.
If people can keep wikipedia in the news with discrediting things like this, eventually its going to collapse. Its already showing signs of issues like low admin participation, low retention, low recruitment, etc.
The biggest shot is to get JJ McCullough to do many videos about Wikipedia.
regardless of whether JJ's initial motivation to go after Wikipedia was noble...

The pro-wikipedia comments to his quite reasonable criticisms on Twitter are unhinged, bratty, and cult-like

The comments on YouTube are far nuanced compared to Twitter and Reddit. Every time criticism against Wikipedia is brought up against the latter two you'd be amazed by how far people are willing to go to worship the "sacred encyclopedia".

Interesting, considering that YouTube comments are usually the lowest quality.
