Re: Elon Musk offers 1 billion USD if Wikipedia changes its name to Dickipedia
twitter added a partly irrelevant "community note" to one of his tweets in that thread:
he did at least refer to it as Wikimedia Foundation unlike the journos who often say "Wikipedia Foundation" or similar, so i bet he has at least looked into it enough to know that.
(edited)
community notes ignores the part about "what's the money for".Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money?
It certainly isn’t needed to operate Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone!
So, what’s the money for? Inquiring minds want to know …
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Wikimedia Foundation is a charitable non-profit, providing free access to Wikipedia.
While a text and English-only copy of Wikipedia is about 51GB, including all media and supported languages totals to 428TB. In 2022 Wikimedia had $154M in revenue with $145M in expenses.

lol, nice troll job
Since Musk is notorious for not paying bills, even if they were stupid enough to change the name, he would likely never pay up. Besides, remember there already WAS a "Dickipedia". It ran from 2007 to the end of 2011. Last capture I could find:

Plus there's a "Dickipedia" on fandom.com, being run by The Dick Show podcast.

If they were still maintaining I'd fully expect to see Musk included in the list of dicksericbarbour wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 8:10 pmlol, nice troll job

In 2007 Lord Elon was a minor Valley figure and Tesla Motors was a tiny startup being laughed at by the auto industry. Tesla probably would have failed--until Toyota (stupidly?) sold them the NUMMI factory at a dirt-cheap price. Because the 2008 meltdown was on the verge of killing off the auto industry (that was still laughing at Tesla). Large corporations are arrogant brainless monsters. Then Musk made a deal with Mercedes and Toyota to sell them drivetrains for "compliance cars", because the state of California and the EU were harassing them to make ZEVs.

Which is still going on today. Remember: short-sellers wanted Tesla to die, and they pulled every trick possible to make it die. Someone's still updating tesladeaths.com, for example. He has insane fans and he has insane detractors....just like Wikipedia.Bloggers mounted a Tesla deathwatch.

Good points. Musk should change his offer to "Dikipeedia".ericbarbour wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 8:10 pmlol, nice troll job

And oh just btw, this pathetic nonsense is generating media coverage. Especially in India where they just LOVE Wp and Jimbo.

Guardian editorials are always 100% predictable when Wikipedia is brought up.....

$100 sez Musk hired a paid-editing company to sanitize his WP bio, and they failed. His fanboys also failed to keep him looking like a stable, reliable super-genius. My suspicion anyway.
Look into the mess of the talkpage archives. The vast bulk of this jabbering was posted there since about 2014.

Re: Elon Musk offers 1 billion USD if Wikipedia changes its name to Dickipedia
I think he really only exposed his dickishness to the public recently. The first instance I recall of him publicly being a dick was maybe around 2014 where he was being called out for not funding a Nikola Tesla museum. But from the stories that have come out recently he's always been a dick but just not as loud or as public.ericbarbour wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 7:38 pmIn 2007 Lord Elon was a minor Valley figure and Tesla Motors was a tiny startup being laughed at by the auto industry. The short sellers of Tesla may get their wish finally as the recent quarterly earnings call reportedly nearly had Elon in tears. Tesla had an edge for a long time but have been resting on its laurels and Elon has been distracted with his new twitter toy. It's pretty certain that the cyber truck can't and won't save the company as no matter its safety as a vehicle it has a limited market so unless the fan boys buy 100 each what Tesla should have been doing is updating the styling on the sedans and fixing the many issues those have had.

He's been mocking Wikipedia constantly for a few days now. I think it only helped him personally as Wikipedians have since removed attacks on his family and private love life from his page.
