It sucks, but there are bigger fish to fry. This is useful mostly as an example of a common strategy; an online media stunt intended to impress upon the viewer a particular label and pre-condition the viewer's beliefs about it. Once the public is loaded with this vocabulary, it can then be used as an ad hominem against anyone who might plausibly fit the bill.

Yea if u lift weights but use a tiktok term to describe it ur part of a 'dangerous subculture' now.

If their actual concern is PSL forums and its descendants they could have just made an article on that subculture or set of forums. But they instead choose to label anyone using words they do as guilty-by-similar-word-usage through selective quoting of bizarre academics.

If someone participates in group bodyslamming at a rock concert and calls it moshing it doesn't 'automatically convert their identity and allegiance to the punk subculture' just because the punk subculture used that one word.
