All of these old "digerati" websites and publications are falling apart - Wikipedia is slipping into a ghost town, Wired became a joke after the late '90s, and now Slashdot is filled with Incels, the suicide bombers of Anglophone social media culture. The dream of a techno-libertarian future has turned into a grimy nightmare of Orwellian USA_PATRIOT spying, control of the Internet by a few massive corporations, social media bullying, and other dogshit unworthy of the 21st century.

And denial thereof. Plus, the nation that hated the Berlin Wall now has the most insane border checks and paranoid treatment of immigrants in the "developed world". Apparently the Constitution no longer applies to the DHS, they operate like the Stasi. Openly....

But we're off topic now.....I should go thru Slashdot's recent threads for more shit-splosions sometime. At least they're funny, because no one takes Slashdot seriously anymore.

Leave us not forget their removal of anonymous comments in August. The screaming this caused was staggering--and quickly forgotten/deleted.

The decision comes after a surge of public pressure against anonymous imageboard services—particularly 8chan, where a deadly shooter's manifesto was apparently posted. That pressure prompted cloud provider Cloudflare (and other replacement services) to stop offering services to the sites.

In an email interview, Slashdot President Logan Abbott says that the decision has nothing to do with Cloudflare's moves to cut ties with 8chan, Daily Stormer, or other controversial sites. Instead, he says the change is "absolutely, only" meant to combat spam.

"The spam was simply too great and coming from extremely dedicated trolls," Abbott says, and he points to large walls of text and SEO spammers as some of the site's most notorious posters. Abbott says he isn't sure why anyone would think they have a "right" to post on someone's website anonymously. He also points to Slashdot's account-creation process currently requiring a bare minimum of personal details, though creating an account does require a verified email address and tracks the user's IP address.

Oh, well, it was a "spam problem". Suuure.
