I think Trump is done - when the Mueller report comes out he will be asked to resign by a small body of Republican congressmen, and they will make sure to mention how impeachment will ruin his "brand", so he will quit. He will be dealing with the lawsuits for the rest of his life. Robert Kuttner thinks the same thing. As does Keith Olbermann:

Here's a project I can really get behind: https://www.gofundme.com/everything-tru ... -dies-film. Two guys are going to make a feature length film on Trump's first year. The working title is "Everything Trump Touches Dies" and it will include the various people who have been involved since Trump became president. Rick Wilson is a political strategist and never-Trumper. He's a quality professional and hilarious. Worth giving some cash to the GoFundMe if anyone is so inclined.

Rick Wilson says many congressional Republicans are becoming willing to abandon Trump, especially after the Pelosi/Schumer deal over DACA. However, he still says impeachment isn't yet a possibility and he doesn't think it will happen. He has mentioned that he expects Pence to assume the presidency and finish the term if it ever does come to impeachment.

I'm talking resignation to avoid impeachment in the Nixon tradition. Pence would still be under investigation if he becomes president in that scenario, unless the Mueller report names Pence as truly in deep with the criminal conspiracy, then both go and Paul "Eddie Munster" Ryan becomes president.
All of this is possible because Trump is an outsider and there is no balance between him and the GOP; he owes them for everything, they could have ditched him for being "too divisive" and "unpresidential" nearing the end of the campaign and run Jeb Bush or Ted "Zodiac Killer" Cruz to probable electoral failure, but they would have dodged allowing a protofascist loon becoming president under their party.

The Republican Party is in crisis. The Democrats don't seem to have any idea how to get the public back in their camp.Strelnikov wrote:Flip Flopped wrote:Rick Wilson says many congressional Republicans are becoming willing to abandon Trump, especially after the Pelosi/Schumer deal over DACA. The Democrats should be doing the right thing, which is bringing in Bernie Sanders-style social democrats into the party to push for issues like smashing oligopolies in numerous American industries (everybody says they love small businesses in Foggy Bottom, and yet the mergers and acquisitions carry on), universal health care, etc. Ending the drone wars would be a good achievement, that and auditing the Pentagon. Rethinking all of our wars is paramount, as is seriously facing climate change.
The Republicans would be better off disbanding, because a rank outsider came in last year and crushed ALL of their candidates. If Trump is thrown out/impeached/dies in office, they can't run any of those people again; that they got shut down by a NYC real-estate hustler will be used against any foolhardy enough to run in primaries for the next twenty years....Ted Cruz is utterly boned because he manned the phones and called GOP voters to pull the lever for Trump. Yes I know that the GOP has a huge block of governors, state senators, mayors, etc. - all of them are tied up in local and state variations of the national GOP platform, including scandals.
(San Diego has a load of Federal and local GOP criminal issues, such as Duncan "Donuts" Hunter using campaign money for personal items, the criminal history of SD-GOP Chairman Tony Krvaric (he was "Strider" of Fairlight, the Swedish software cracking/warez outfit) and his cackhanded way of changing offices.)

If the Democrats don't put forward a strong candidate, then Trump could be re-elected. It happened once.

President Dorito tries to destroy Obamacare with executive order, proving that brute force is the only way he can get anything "done."

This is being posted all over Reddit today

That last part is kinda funny--whatever Obama was, he wasn't a "liberal" in conventional terms. Plus:
The New Republic will get angry letters about this....

In a political age defined by two strains of populism—Trump’s on the right, and Senator Bernie Sanders’s on the left—New Democracy should be viewed by any sentient political observer as little more than a risible relic with a fancy budget. The most prominent Democratic politicians who’ve jumped on board are anything but prominent: John Hickenlooper, Colorado’s business-first governor, Tom Vilsack, the former Iowa governor and Clinton cheerleader, and New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu. But the old organs of the Washington establishment still take these people seriously, and otherwise intelligent Democrats still have a strange Pavlovian response to the dire warnings they issue, like clockwork, every four years: Embracing liberalism will always and forever end in defeat (even if Barack Obama disproved that theory not once but twice).
That last part is kinda funny--whatever Obama was, he wasn't a "liberal" in conventional terms. Plus:
The goal of these disinformation campaigns has always been the same: to frighten the left into falling in line with the moneyed masters of the party. And at a moment when the party is finally abandoning the New Democratic formula—suck up to big business and the military-industrial complex, pander to white supremacy, and win!—fear-mongering is the only thin reed of hope the “moderates” have to retain their supremacy in the party.
The New Republic will get angry letters about this....
