Various opinions on gun control
It's about this WO topic in the members only section. And our lovely gender desk lady not long ago pointed at the The Daily Show in a other context, complete unknown in Holland.
Well, someone in that WO topic claimed: The terrorist attacks in France are committed with full-auto Kalashikovs despite France having had strict gun laws for who knows how long. That is correct, if I travel to Amsterdam with a bag of money I can return with a full-auto Kalashikov the same day, East Europe is loaded up with this stuff, there is enough on the black marked. But we have a other relation with guns in Europe.

By the way, at the moment I like the genderdesk lady her blog very, very much. This was really a great topic with a lot of humor with flipping that pickture at the end. She is absolute improving here blog. And I hope there coming soon a few strong, brave man to liberate her out of the snow, because I understand she is snowed in.

Yep, and no one really cares. The streets of America are practically paved with firearms. BATF laws on gun ownership are routinely ignored and mocked. Lots of people have illegal full-auto assault rifles, and very few of them go to jail for it.

Re: Various opinions on gun control
And that is the huge different between continental Europa and America Eric. (I don't speak for England)
The continental European countries are ruled in the best socialistic tradition of the formal East European countries. Everything is controlled, a dustman can offer you a huge ticket and the chief (Rijkswaterstaat) of the roadwork's too if you don't care about your garbage or bring the road workers in danger.
If the police only hears the rumour you have a illegaal weapon they are at the same day knocking at your door and search till they have fond it. You don't have to tell here it is my right to own a gun, because the judge will learn you in the hard way that is not true in Holland.
Police officers are more or less first a social worker and than a policeman or woman. They have there eyes and ears in the society, just like the judges have. They know in general what is going on and what is happening in the society and for instance who is interested in illegal guns. Ze kennen hun pappenheimers as we say, they know them.
And you as you can see it in Switzerland the same, rules, rules and again rules. Rules for everything. But the formal precedent can drink a beer in peach in a surrounding with guns, and Mark Rutte can use his bicycle if May arrives.
So, it is not such a bad system as it looks. We absolute don't feel unfree with our "communistic" state controlled system van je wieg tot het graf. From your cradle to your grave. Because we are raised and disciplined in this system, we follow the rules blind because otherwise you will be punished in the hard way. It is absolute a not a warning system. It is a pay or I sue you system if you don't pay now. And than you pay at least double or more, or worser you end up in prison. It happens people who can't pay are send to prison, and afterwards they still have to pay. There is no escape, simple you have to pay. Always.

Guns are so rare in the UK, the BBC literally created a documentary about one illegal gun. One gun. Seriously, this happened.....
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0btt5pf
I don't think Americans have a clue how utterly bizarre their attitude to guns really is. Not normal, not in the slightest. Wikipedia doesn't help, because educating Americans as to how America is viewed by outsiders, is oddly enough, not seemingly a priority of any of the Wikipedians, not the American editors, or the minority who aren't.

"ppl kill ppl with guns."
You can't seriously suggest that guns don't result in more death, for example;
Angry British teen and angry American teen both decide to kill their schools:
- The Brit, armed with a knife, stabs five people, killing one and putting the others in hospital for a few weeks, they serve 7 years in prison.
- The American, armed with some kind of rifle, kills at least twenty people and injures some more seriously, and then kills themselves.
Obvious.

Re: Various opinions on gun control
Firearms are the "idiot's killer app", as someone wiser and meaner than me once said. They take all the intellect out of the personal business of murder and make it "ease-of-user friendly" for folks too dumb or incapable of finding other ways. Before firearms, you gave a sword to your angry little cannon-fodder types and sent them out to die in some unimportant little thing; "come back with your shield or on it" and such. Now a single fodderhead can mow down dozens in one session easily.
I personally think wars should be fought ONLY by people who have to pass an intelligence test or something. They have to MAKE THEIR OWN WEAPONS from scratch, before they can start committing atrocities. Idiots should be given every possible opportunity to self-pwn before society gives them weapons. That would prevent an amazing amount of war, baby. Ha ha. (of course it would put the military out of business, and they would do anything to prevent that. Especially in countries like the USA where millions of voters depend for their fat-assed livelihoods on defense contracting.)

Re: Various opinions on gun control
Democracy is all about trusting people to make informed choices, and guns being legal is not undemocratic. Drugs being illegal is undemocratic, and that funds and inspires much of the gangland culture that leads to insane shootings. So, the answer to the gun problem is pretty straightforward - legalise drugs. That takes all that cash out of the pockets of criminals, ends the war on addicted citizens, brings some sense back into the streets, rescues Mexico etc etc etc. But they never will. The spirit of prohibition is very strong in the US and hence in the West generally. Even Wikipedia has a right to exist in a democracy, even if some depraved and stupid things go on there.

Re: Various opinions on gun control
It was a posting about weapons in Europe, and there is no democratic majority for free guns. And Wikipedia has every right to exist in a democracy as long they follow the (local) regulations in a strict way. And otherwise not.

Tut tut. Burying someone else's edits, under specious pretexts, is very Wikipedian.
