Nice example of Reddit at its most idiotic

https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/ ... _original/

Please note: this was the staff of Bomis in 2000, Wikipedia did not exist yet, and Nupedia was still being hashed out.

OF COURSE the nerds are telling each other to donate to Wikimedia. Always happens. Knee-jerk reflex now.

This here is quite lulzy oh yeahhhh

https://www.dailydot.com/debug/pro-trum ... -conflict/
In a pinned post, a moderator says a "precarious situation" with the previous site led them to create the new one. They also referenced fears that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) would take it over and turn it into a "honeypot," presumably for collecting intelligence on users.

"The TL;DR is that we don't have control over it, and we cannot risk that any longer," moderator Doggos wrote. They also claim that thedonald.win was meant to be owned by a group, not a single person, but that an individual registered it preemptively as fears grew that Reddit would kick them off and they began discussing creating their own website.

Doggos also claimed that the owner repeatedly failed to fulfill promises to transfer ownership of the site to a shared legal entity. "We knew this would come back to haunt us—and perhaps it has," they wrote.

The Daily Dot was unable to reach Jody Williams, whom the Wall Street Journal reports owns thedonald.win, for comment.

Earlier this week, Williams told the Journal that he's been waging an internal battle to keep out white supremacists and violent extremists. "Mr. Williams said a small cluster of the site’s most powerful moderators—including one who controls its code—have thwarted his efforts to rein in such content even as it grew over the last 10 months," the Journal reported.

Williams added that such content, already rising amid the COVID-19 lockdowns and civil rights protests, exploded in the wake of President Donald Trump's bad-faith attacks on the integrity of the election. His efforts to control it earned he and his family multiple daily death threats, he said.

Reddit is doomed because of Bitcoin (lot of 'coinermonkeys on the site) and when 'crypto is either baned worldwide as a resource waste or the market rejects it as too much of a scam hazard, all those people will flee to other sites and other get-rich-quick schemes. The other heavy damage-er is the site's long flirtations with the far-Right from before r/the_donald; there were subreddits built around "Traditionalism" and hosting links to .pdfs of Rene Guenon and Julius Evola books (scans of old library books) alongside the rougher biker-racist subreddits and other coded crap like the "air conditioning" subreddit (Tijuana-made Frigidare?). The people who want that stuff can get it on Gab and Parler and Metapedia, they don't need Steve Huffman's rubber dog toy of a Reich.

Watch as Reddit becomes more and more of a gaming website, a chat-spot for college kids (r/sdsu, r/ucsd, [insert your college here] but even more so than now), a poor-man's Fortean Times forum (r/ufos, r/uap, etc.), meme nonsense, and so on.

Just wanted to report that site is fully transferred and accounts on it are working. I'm sure it will implode into factional violence in a week, but for now the online Trump Tea Party is go.

Not even 24 hours old and already being hyper-bashed by sockpuppets and bots automatically upvoting the "important" crap. You could easily be right about a quick meltdown. Some of the Trumpies are really not happy about him leaving office without giving them "blanket pardons" or some shit.

The "suicide prevention" ad is a charming touch, the bastards. Might as well be 4chan.

The suicide prevention ad is a long-running "joke" going back to before the election. It was aimed at Democratic liberals*, I think it stays as a jibe at weaker "centipedes" (Trump fans). Either way it's just more military school-style barracks cruelty.

It's no longer thedonald.win but patriots.win. The first site will become something else and there is an explanation page if you look at it.
_______________

* And the only non-Right-wing people who would see it are antifascist researchers posing as Trumpheads.

after several months of #GME and crypto pumping on r/wallstreetbets, we now have this

https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/

Looks more and more like a cult than anything else. The robotic chanting, the intolerance of criticism....even funnier was Gamestop offering to hire coders because they evidently intend to turn obsolete and "abandonware" games into NFTs. r/superstonk went completely bonkers over it.

The shits just keep coming.

You have probably seen something about this because social media and Reddit have been saturated with the story for the past 24 hours. All started with a Tiktok video.

Now he has his own subreddit! Pointless?

The inevitable heavy.com post

Here's a couple of FRONT PAGE posts I just had to drop. They show how stupid Redditors can often be--and still get asspats from other Redditors. Mental age of 13 and all that. Cringey.

This guy has a tapeworm, and asks Reddit what to do....
