Off-air recordings dumped on archive.org

Most insane show on WWCR, the Zeph Report has been on the air since 2002. The host is Zeph E. Daniels, more famously known as Woody Keith, the guy that conceived the story to and co-wrote the script for Society (1989), the body-horror film that was directed by the producer of The Re-Animator (1985). Daniels just rants for 50 minutes at a time, plays a song between hours and the show goes on for two hours. It's like a religious radio version of Videodrome. It also doesn't help that the WWCR frequency is near the STANAG utility transmitter for NATO aircraft so you hear the "zip-zap" of that transmitter in the background occasionally. The ranting achieves orbit at times.

What it sounds like when WWCR-SW (World-Wide Christian Radio) changes operating frequencies: cheesy pan drum music.

Recorded off the NA5B WebSDR.

https://archive.org/details/warfa-main- ... 3908.0k-hz

For jamming they use Crowell's "Judy in Disguise" parody, the "Cover of the Rolling Stone" parody, stuff from the 3840 kHz days and other crap (John Prukop rants) they have used before. The Western Amateur Radio Friendship Association closed their net early thanks to the awful band conditions and the jamming.

Recorded off the KFS WebSDR

The jamming lasted for twenty minutes straight. Western Amateur Radio Friendship Association check-in net, jammed by William F. Crowell (ex-W6WBJ) or his ham radio friends using old recordings collage'ed together into a blob. It's a war of old men on other old men.

Recorded off the KFS WebSDR.

This should also be on Archive.org in this form:

You're in the Picture and the infamous "Apology" episode, 1961. This was a Jackie Gleason-hosted 30 minute panel game show that stunk so bad Gleason had to apologize the next week. Because Gleason owed the network (CBS) time, the slot quickly mutated into a talk show, The Jackie Gleason Show that lasted six more weeks. It's fun to look at because of the large number of on-camera ads, either for Kellogg's Cereal or L&M cigarettes; Gleason does his spiked coffee running gag ("Chock full O' Booze") in the "Apology" episode, which he ad-libbed for 25 minutes straight.

I've never seen a kinescope look like this, pulled back so you see the completely round tube.

More of this stuff I find, these recordings are off-air for that shortwave crackle:

https://archive.org/details/wtww-religi ... 5085.0k-hz

From around 4pm to 6pm Pacific (6pm to 8pm Central) WTWW shortwave Transmitter 2 runs this religious show on Sundays before switching formats to an AM Gold/pre-2000s pop rock station. Pastor Everett Cox has run Deliverance Ministries in Oklahoma City since 1984, and the show is endless demon-fighting talk with Pastor Cox Skyping in, and they take many calls. (Posted 8-14-22, recorded on 8-07-22.)

https://archive.org/details/wtww-delive ... 5085.0k-hz

The full show of WTWW's Deliverance Ministries with Pastor Cox on Transmitter 2. They had some issues, so they ran a song at the beginning.Call-ins, demons are everywhere, all the standards for this program, but you get the full show, presented here for historical purposes. (Recorded and posted on 8-15-22.)

as I said in email: This wasn't taken from a "professional" kinescope machine. Looks like someone just pointed a 16mm camera at a commercial TV set during a live broadcast. Very amateur setup. Most TVs of the 1950s had a screen like this, with a round CRT and a mask to make it look "sort of rectangular". The sound is terrible which I would expect if they just stuck a microphone next to the monitor speaker.

And the show itself.....purified 100-octane cringe. It was a typical game show of the period, with endless product pitches and frantic
time-rushing and bad production values. Even though they hired capable actors and comedians, they all flubbed every skit. How often do you see ad-libbed "comedy" this awful? I'd swear there was no script, not even "guidelines".

Gleason was smart enough to deal with it openly and did a good job of explaining what happened in the "after show". For once he wasn't talking down to the audience.

And they keep telling us this was television's "Golden Age". Hah. BTW it is a literal miracle ANY of the pre-1956 television survived. This was before videotape, kinescoping shows on film was very costly and only done for major network productions, so nearly all of it was live and never recorded at all.

I could go on and on about early TV and its utter slavery to advertisers. So I will ha ha.

There was absolutely nothing "odd" about this. Until the FCC changed regulations in 1965, virtually ALL tv programming was saturated with ad pitches. They finally banned all tobacco ads in 1971. I'd post links to YT videos of early programs, but it looks as if someone has been removing blatant examples. Maybe they are trying to cover up how much of early programming was heavily sponsored by cigarette companies. Or perhaps someone's screaming about copyright. You might be able to find some of it on archive.org--good luck, I tried and found mountains of unrelated crap.

Did find Steve Allen pushing Greyhound buses on his show
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-cVOayUFCQ

and the Flintstones pushing Winston cigarettes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAExoSozc2c

also the Beverly Hillbillies
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEx44ETP8Ac

I can't find the "CBS CAVALCADE OF NEWS" from 1947, where the anchorman repeatedly interrupted the news report with a hard-sell pitch for cigarettes, coffee, or aspirin. Shame--it was hilarious AND useless as "news reporting". It must have been removed because someone complained.

There's this assembly of shows from 1948-49, all openly sponsored by some corporation or other. Full of old fashioned vaudeville entertainers. The "coolest" medium of all time was actually so "hot", people were entertained by this crude bullshit. The cameras and equipment were so damn expensive that there was literally no money left for staff, crew, sets and props. Early TV always hung by a thread.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6sOTBtcCcA

Bonus find: The NBC "Camel News Caravan" from 1952. This 15-minute show ran from 1949 to 1956 and became the "Plymouth News Caravan" after Camel decided to drop it. The network didn't care who was footing the bill. Complete with John Wayne selling the things that killed him 20 years later. Mr. Swayze, who spent most of his career pushing Timex watches, was a true supporter of "Free television at all costs". In 1956 NBC decided to replace it with a "more serious" news show, which is when Huntley-Brinkley began.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qK_3NBHJyBk

"Hard sell" wasn't exclusive to NBC or CBS. The original "third network" was DuMont, who owned stations and also manufactured CRTs and TV sets. They couldn't make consistent revenues, partly because their competitors also had radio networks to provide more ad money. So Mr. DuMont sold the stations to John Kluge, who built the Metromedia system out of the DuMont stations and some affiliates. And he later sold it all to Murdoch, which is where the original Fox network came from in 1986. But this is how it started.

Complete with John Wayne selling the things that killed him 20 years later.

There's only one knot in that diagnosis; Wayne "starred" in The Conquerer, that goofy/awful Genghis Khan flick from 1956. Most of it was shot in spots in Utah that were downwind from nuclear tests in Nevada, and sand from the area was shipped back to the studio so it would match on camera; nobody did a Geiger counter check. In the years after the production many of the cast and crew would start dying of cancer; case in point, Pedro Armendáriz (who played the bad guy of the picture "Jamuga") later got neck cancer. He acted while sick and in pain in the second James Bond movie From Russia With Love (he was the Turkish spy master "Ali Kerim Bey"), and later that year (1963) shot himself to death at the UCLA Medical Center using a gun he had smuggled in for when the agony got to be unbearable. Armendáriz is buried down in the Panteón Jardín ("garden cemetery") in Mexico City. Wikipedia claims they had 200 cast and crew and over 90 died of cancer, including the director. Wayne lost a lung and then had stomach cancer. I could see the cigarettes getting the lung, if it weren't for the radioactive dust, the stomach....I don't know.

Yeah, people have been arguing about this for 60 years. I know. Plenty of evidence for and against. Wayne was smoking 4-5 packs a day at the time. And they never mention other films that were made in Washington County in the late 1950s during the heaviest nuclear testing. I don't see any talk of the actors and crew in They Came To Cordura, A Man Alone, or Run Of The Arrow dying of cancer in unusual numbers. Those are just random movies I looked up and there may have been others.

Not to mention the MANY westerns that were shot in the Kanab area, where there is still a popular film ranch. I'm guessing the St. George area was closer to LA and therefore cheaper, but the far more scenic areas of Kanab, Canyonlands, Moab and Monument Valley were "better looking on film". John Ford had a real chubby for Monument Valley--part of why the place has become such a tired cliche.

Just a passing note: last year hams started complaining about 40-meter jamming. FROM CUBA.

https://www.arrl.org/news/fcc-investiga ... -40-meters

video, in which he uses SDRs to triangulate the location of the jamming. Hmmm.

Back to the source:
Never forget 9/11! Hold George W. Bush and the 2001-2008 White House staff responsible for letting it happen!

https://archive.org/details/warfa-main- ... 3908.0k-hz
WARFA Main, After 8 07pm. Jammed. Sun. 9-11-2022 3908.0kHz
Tonight it was Garfunkle and Oates (Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci) as jamming material, but my computer crashed and by the time I was recording again it was the normal 3840/Billy Crowell junk. The Western Amateur Radio Friendship Association has been jammed with Garfunkle and Oates songs before and I was hoping those would be on a loop tonight to break the monotony of all the old clips we've heard before. They jammed the snot out of the main Western Amateur Radio Friendship Assoc. frequency until the net operators gave up. If you find this jamming disgusting, pass a link or burn a CD to the FCC telling them that Billy and his crew are still operating against WARFA.
Recorded off the KFS WebSDR site. (ke5cde.wixsite.com/hifivers3908mhz)

https://archive.org/details/hi-fivers-t ... 3908.0k-hz
Hi Fivers Tune Jammed Last Two Minutes of Net. Th. 9-15-2022 3908.0kHz
What it says on the can: a three-minute recording of the end of the Hi-Fivers check-in net that runs before WARFA (Western Amateur Radio Friendship Assoc.) check-in net. They are tune jammed over and over in the last two minutes. Do not listen with headphones if you are sensitive to noise.
Recorded off the KFS WebSDR.

https://archive.org/details/warfa-main- ... 3908.0k-hz
WARFA Main, Jammed From 8pm On. Th. 9-15-2022 3908.0kHz
Like with most WARFA nights, the jamming started with William Crowell's parody of "Judy in Disguise (with Glasses)" aka "Moody's Fish Fry" and his parody of Dr. Hook's "On the Cover of the Rolling Stone" ("On the Cover of QST"), then it veered off into the YouTube Black prostitute (?) woman telling men to wash themselves "down there". After that the "grey aliens" Crowell song and then an Art Bell parody not made by Billy Crowell. The jamming started and stopped over and over, like the amplifier was overheating and they had to stop transmitting. Then it was some 3840 kHz recording from years ago. By 21 minutes in, there is some Morse Code, then a John Prukop--Tim Volz recording from 3840 kHz. 24:54 A segment of Gilbert Gottfried's version of "The Aristocrats"; all the most repellent parts. 27:04 Dead air. 27:30 Back to Gottfried and "The Aristocrats" joke, dead air at 28:02. 29:20 More Art Bell parody. 29:50 Dead air. 29:54 Soundboard snippet from 3840 kHz. 30:39 Crowell snippet. After that it was a bunch of short snippets off 3840 kHz, interspersed with dead air. Every time Willard Young asked for check-ins, the jammer ran a soundboard snippet. The jamming finally stopped 32-plus minutes in. The net itself shut down at 8:40pm Pacific.
Recorded off the KFS WebSDR

https://archive.org/details/warfa-relay ... 3890.0k-hz
WARFA Relay, Jammed. Th. 9-15-2022 3890.0kHz
Recording began at 8:02pm and the jamming was fragmented and short for the 18-plus minutes WARFA used the frequency but followed the jamming on the main frequency, so this was another jammer transmitter following a list of stuff to transmit. Lots of dead air by 19:01 and the rest of the recording is dead air, tune ups, and garbled LSB transmissions (the bottom edge of an Lower Side Band transmission that juts into 3890.)
Recorded off the KFS WebSDR.

More horror:

https://archive.org/details/warfa-main- ... 3908.0k-hz
NSFW WARFA Main, Jammed With Recordings, VE7KFM In There. Th. 1-09-2019 3908.0kHz

From the archives, a recording from 2019 that started around 9:21pm (either I was late or the computer crashed and I restarted recording). This was back before William F. Crowell's appeal to the FCC was turned down and his "limbo license" (it was neither renewed nor denied since 2006 or 2007) was still in "effect". The recording is a total collage jamming featuring stuff we have not heard in years, all of it deliberately offensive. You have been warned.

(VE7KFM, aka Karol F. Madera, was not live in this session. These were snippets taken from YouTube videos and dumped into the mix of the collage.)

Recorded off the KFS WebSDR in Half-Moon Bay, CA.
warfa.org

https://archive.org/details/warfa-main- ... 3908.0k-hz
WARFA Main, Jammed With Crowell Calling In. Tues. 12-18-2018 3908.0kHz (Full session.)

More from the archives, Crowell calling in to WARFA using a soundboard of himself at the end of 2018. NSFW like most of them before 2021. I have hours more of Crowell pointlessly jamming the Western Amateur Radio Friendship Assoc. check-in net that it's kind of nauseating. Literally you are listening to an old man fight on radio, where one side is throwing all the punches and the other side is ducking. The FCC Chief Commissioner should be shamed into doing something about this because it goes on to this day.

Recorded off the KFS WebSDR in Half-Moon Bay, CA.

https://archive.org/details/warfa-main- ... 3908.0k-hz
NSFW WARFA Main, Jammed Totally. Only 20 Plus Mins. Thurs. 1-16-2019 3908.0kHz

From the archives - this one is just a fragment, but it shows the collage jamming William Crowell in early 2019 toward the WARFA check-in net. The recording ended nearly at 8:31pm. Another "not safe for work special", download this file, burn a CD and mail it to the FCC. They'll use it for a coaster.

Recorded off the KFS WebSDR in Half-Moon Bay, CA.

****

Some of the older recordings I didn't assign file titles to beyond the automatic dates. The farther back you go the harder to listen to this crap gets because Billy Crowell (the 70-year-old delinquent) used the worst clips from YouTube, the 3840 kHz hangout/slobnet, and other spoken-word sources. It seemed like there were a number of collages and it's very hard to figure out how long they are because Crowell and his alleged goons re-use material. Some were music oriented, some were completely spoken word. It remains an utter waste of electricity.

Last year when WTWW wasn't a dead duck, this is what they ran in early December 2021. Hopefully their blend of AM Gold and bizarro religious messages will be rebroadcast on WRMI in 2023. Snippet is 95% AM Gold/easy listening, 5% Christmas music.
