I’ve been a doomer since 1973, read “The Population Bomb” (my mom bought the book) and “Limits to Growth.” Extinction will come from overpopulation, peak oil and pollution (climate change).

Don’t believe there are other planets with intelligent life. Earth is unique. Read this book too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rare_Eart ... e_Universe
Overpopulation is a MYTH. We were supposed to peak at 14 billion (or higher!) people, then they revised down to 12 billion, then 11, now 10.4. They may soon revise it down even lower. Atmospheric pollution is currently the lowest in decades in most developed countries and global pollution is staying about even. We won't reach peak oil. Period. Other pollution (such as PFAS, lead, and Mercury) also continues to go down rapidly.

Lol, that’s easy for you to say but life we’re living is unsustainable, the planet is overpopulated… where do you live? No one wants to live in west Texas, cities are like anthills.
Well, lucky for you as the UN projects that population will soon go down globally (and, by extension, in the US).

And yes, the life we live now IS unsustainable, but that isn't due to population.

It’s unsustainable because not enough resources for too many people and no movement to consume less. “Be prepared,” SHTF, peak oil, etc. Are you one of those who thinks throwing enough money at it will solve the problem? (Please explain how to save the world.) Civilization is collapsing, look at all the young hopeless people killing them selves with fentanyl.

It's not unsustainable we have "too many people", it's unsustainable because we are not using the resources that we have sustainably and efficiently. Why do you think that "overpopulation" is the issue? Most developed nations - where most of the emissions, pollution, overconsumption, etc. come from - are either stagnating in population, or declining. Most of the remaining population growth is in developing countries where most advanced development has been made using newer, more sustainable technologies, and hence people born there will not only produce less emissions in the short-term, but will also produce less in the long-term, as when they will be more developed, they will be using newer, more sustainable technology.
Are you one of those who thinks throwing enough money at it will solve the problem?
No, what you think I even want them to throw money at?
Civilization is collapsing
Again, no source.
Civilization is collapsing, look at all the young hopeless people killing them selves with fentanyl.
What is your source? And, even if that is true, I find it highly unlikely that it is global issue.

@bbb23 sucks: I agree with your general premise that the overpopulation threat has been wildly overblown. Earth can support over 10 million people without problem for the practically foreseeable future. However, the other dude has a point about the fentanyl deaths. The combined tally of suicide, drug overdoses, alcohol and driving related deaths point to a culture that is marred by hopelessness in America. And as a reault of all of this, life expectancy has been declining there for years, even before COVID. However the best metric for this is probahly the fertility rate, which globally has been depressed in advanced countries since the 70s and shows no signs of improving any time soon. Developed world countries don't seem to be affected by any of this, generally speaking, but there are exceptions.

Sad. Not sure about fentanyl in particular, but I know a lot of drug overdose deaths are/were preventable as they were mainly caused by corporate greed.

Also, you might want to change '10 million' to '10 billion'. Hehe.
