Wikipedia Sucks!

I'm starting off with a really raw one.

So, the state of California just passed a law to keep local governments from charging prosecuted defendants "prosecution fees".

And guess what. Silver & Wright, the sleazy Orange County law firm at the center of this idiot scheme, is screaming "FAKENEWSFAKENEWS" on its website. And claiming the newspaper is "running smear campaigns".

Their accusations are meritless. They broke the law, were held accountable, and are now trying to get their convictions overturned, not because they are innocent, but by casting false shade on their prosecutors. We represent justice and the public and we will be vindicated in court.

I hate fake news and call it by its various old names: propaganda, disinformation, yellow journalism (facts goosed), tabloid journalism (facts bent), straight libel. Fake News sounds like a petulant child yelling about real news that makes them angry, i.e., "It couldn't have happened, the Space Shuttle Challenger could not have blown up!" (I was there, nobody denied the shuttle had blown up, we were all numb, some seasick*, on a whale-watching boat as one of the Big Three kept showing the explosion again and again - they had a TV below decks. Almost the School Trip from Hell.)

* Not me, I loved hanging on for dear life from a railing as we cut through the waves. Didn't hurt that this was the second trip in a year.

I've been trying to find a US media report of this insane incident. Nothing. But the fucking Daily Mail covered the story. Badly. (It happened in Washington state and not Oregon....idiots.)

Not that the Australian reports were much better. White Pass is a LOONG way from Malheur (400 miles, Google it!) and I highly doubt these two lunatics had any connection to the Bundys.

The next day, oh look: there IS some local media coverage now. And they're claiming the Aussie media exaggerated the incident. This I can believe. The land of Rupert Murdoch gives us another lovely gift.

Two firefighters from Australia who were helping the U.S. Forest Service in Washington state have been shot at by hunters.

That must be the reputation for correcting errors that the Wikipedians claim the Mail doesn't have.

Daniel Barwick, a Rural Fire Service volunteer who was awarded a National Medal for protect the Lake George area in Canberra, was one of the two Australians attacked, according to Fairfax Media.

There's that attribution that the Wikipeidnas claim the Mail doesn't do, because attribution is what RS do. Are you suggesting the British press should not be reporting what the rest of the world's press is reporting? Fairfax Media is of course an RS for Wikipedia.

It's worth noting the Wikipedians dismissed the fact the Mail reported the fact that Sarah Jeong's tweets attacked more than just whites, she attacked the police, because they not reliable. Hence they decided this aspect of her story didn't have traction, so as to exclude it from her "settled realty". I imagine this is what they would do to call this a local Australian story, and keep it out of USpedia.

Close to 80 Australians have flown to help the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management since July......The publication reported that there was concern that if Australia knew about what happened that there would be calls to withdraw Australians from the line of duty.

Sounds like a good reason why the local news would not have reported it.....

Two men, who were reportedly bear hunting, were give Violation Notices by USDA Forest Service Law Enforcement Officers for violation of the closure order.....The two men who allegedly shot at the four emergency service personnel have additional charges pending.

That seems like something that would have generated a public record (if you really think this is "fake news").

NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia: 'Fire and Rescue NSW is aware of the incident in August involving one of our firefighters and we are confident the matter was dealt with appropriately by US authorities.

'Support was provided to the firefighters following the incident. We are proud of the work Australian firefighters did to help protect communities affected by these devastating wildfires and we were pleased to see them arrive home safely on Saturday.'

The Wikipedians would have us believe the Mail is not reliable because it "routinely fabricates" even quotes like this. They of course provided no evidence to back up this claim (what happened to the Wikipedia doctrine of extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence I wonder ). I know who I find more trustrowrth......
