In these times of post-FramBan constitutional debate, it is hilarious to note that the en.wiki Women In Red Super-Project is apparently some kind of mothership organisation, whose tentacles stretch across to other language edition equivalents....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia ... ional_list

I mean, I find it wholly bizarre that the "Founder" of English Wikipedia WikiProject manually posts their "Women In Red" newsletter to the Meta hosted Wikimedia Affiliate the WikiWomen's User Group....

https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php? ... d=18922988

Even though it is all worded as if the reader is already assumed to be on English Wikipedia (to the point it doesn't even say, hey guys, English Wikipedia here, before it starts gobbing off about talk pages etc). That user group exists precisely to bring together users from around the world, not just from different language Wikipedia's, but other WMF Projects.

What role en.wiki ArbCom in any fun and games that originate from these pretty opaque connections?

Women in Red isn't a recognized "Affiliate", but it is an ally of Wiki Women's User Group and Gender Diversity Visibility Community User Group, ergo why I left a comment here. (PS: You don't have to be a member of an Affiliate to participate in the surveys. Everyone's opinion is welcomed.) --Rosiestep (talk) 18:31, 15 July 2019 (UTC)
Um, when did WikiProjects gain the ability to be allies? Strange thing for a simple workspace to be doing. Who gets to decide who they're allied with? Where does one even find the list of allies a project has?

Wikipediocracy has taken notice of WikiProject X. Apparently it ended in failure (or it was a scam all along).

I have to vote for scam. Wanna see the true Wiki-History of James Hare, Great Wikipedian and WMF employee? Have a look at the book notes content.
James "Messedrocker (T-C-F-R-B)" Hare was believed to be 14 years old when he ran for adminship in May 2006, and failed. He tried again in September 2006, and succeeded. Soon enough he was adding his incoherent and badly-typed comments to noticeboard arguments. He showed up originally in November 2004 and was a typical "gnome", with a fondness for cartoons.

A minor Wikipedia process term was named after him, as shown in the final MFD for Esperanza: "Zocky, When I said "Messedrockerify", I meant to retain the edit histories but make the pages inactive (essentially salting but not deleting). If this in any way means that the organization will be kept in its current form, then I would request my opinion to delete be taken into account. I imagine most Messedrocker supporters feel this way. So if it's deemed impossible to mark an organization inactive/historical via MFD, then this should probably default to delete. Ral315 (talk) 12:42, 1 January 2007 (UTC) " [116] He had already developed a reputation as a "process wonk" who did no content work, just tried to delete things and thereby "make policy". His August 2007 attempt to delete a raft of Simpsons articles was a failure, even though he was right about them being useless fancruft. Hare was also neck-deep in Wikipedia's useless and hopeless "Mediation" system; this is a typical example of his "work".

He ran for bureaucrat in March 2007, at age 14 or 15, and flopped; and ran for Arbcom in December 2007 and flopped horribly. In March 2009 he changed his name to Harej (T-C-F-R-B), whereupon someone usurped his old account, requiring its blockage. Hare ran for bureaucrat in August 2009 and flopped again, and ran for Arbcom again in December 2010, and flopped once more. He is presently a major member of Wikimedia DC, despite having done no substantive content work. Even in 2014 he continues to make most of his "contributions" to noticeboards and talkpages.

Anyone surprised to learn that the pimply little boy came to Wikipedia from MeatballWiki?
THAT is the WMF in all its glory.

This idea was doomed to failure from the start.

As I stated above there were several reasons this concept failed:
- Putting James Hare/Fox/several other previous usernames in charge of this. He is unqualified, he's a jerk and he is so much of a Koolaid drinker he is completely incapable of looking at this problem in a neutral unbiased way.
- There are more 2000 WikiProjects, and about 30, 000 related pages, most of which are dead but the community refuses to delete them. Many of these are derelict and were never completed and are just a mess. They need to clean up the garbage
- There are two many projects with a vested interest in seeing this fail. Many of the WikiProjects have become militant and aggressive fiefdom's that spend as much time destroying competition and breaking editors that think differently than improving content. US Roads and Women in Red both come to mind.
- It was under funded. $10K isn't enough to do a project of this magnitude
- This won't fix the toxic culture.
- The WMF doesn't have a clue, most of them don't edit, the few that do are admins and look at the community of editors as a nuisance to be controlled. They have lost touch with reality and wouldn't know the solution to this problem if it baked them a cake.
