There are substantial bios of Lacey and Larkin, but buried deep in the Village Voice Media article. All three of the above-mentioned articles are badly written, especially the Phoenix New Times article.
If you type "Michael Lacey" into WP's search, you get an obscure mathematician. There's a disambiguation page for "Jim Larkin" with five people listed, none of whom is the media tycoon.

Their popularity also stems from their ongoing battle with Joe Arpaio, former sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona. Arpaio had been in their crosshairs for some time due to his unlawful and inhumane practices as law enforcement official, and this earned Larkin and Lacey a spot in his sights as well.
