Let's all laugh at the hilarity that was RexxS' ill fated tenure as an Administrator

Post by Jake Is A Sellout » Sun Aug 08, 2021 11:40 pm

Well, it seems official. RexxS is that very rare thing, a Wikipedia retirement that looked like a diva quit, but has actually stuck.

This seems like a great time to really stick the knife in.....
Damn I miss you, RexxS. Drmies (talk) 01:15, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
I could do such a number on this, because it really is a fucking disgraceful episode, from start to finish. I was proven right in everything I predicted and every harsh criticism, so those who like to call me crazy and evil etc, ha ha, you got pwned again. Happens way too often for it to be an accident, right? And I was right on the fucking money on this one. Jack fucking pot.

It suffices just to summarise the key points.

I'm not even going to laugh at the stupid and contemptible way his RfA was handled. Suffice to say, the potential harm of doing such an obviously disrespectful thing again, is now obvious. I hope you're learning, because it was funny as fuck that that nonsense was retroactively signed off on by some of your highest ranking and most experienced users.

Everyone who claimed RexxS would be a great Administrator in his RfA, many of whom asserted this on the basis of knowing him in real life (how the hell is that even allowed as a rational in RfA?), they were proven wrong. Spectacularly so. He couldn't even make it two years.

Egg. Faces. Everywhere. Read those names, and see how doggarn certain they were that they were right. Every single one is a potential enemy of Wikipedia in my book. The reason for their decline and general toxicity. Certainly untrustworthy. Either because they knew he wasn't Admin material and just pressed ahead anyway, or were too fucking incompetent to know what they were doing. Which is hilarious either way, given how many Administrators are on it.

And let's have it right. This was no RfA where you could legitimately say you took a chance and it went wrong and shit happens. They all knew the stakes, they all knew his record, they all knew that a deferment was an option, if, as it proved to be the case, that someone so set in ther ways was unlikely to magically be able to uphold their cynically late promise that they would have to do better.

They all knew that for both the candidate himself, and his all powerful backer, this was more than just an RfA, this was about proving once and for all, that RfA is No Big Deal. This was a test. Could they come in and just act like admin was just some sort of service medal that RexxS was actually, somehow, owed, as some kind of recognition? Their chance to see that shit, and reject it vehemently. Some did, others did not. Now you know their names. It never pays to be on the same side as utter scum like Kudpung. So if you supported, you better own that as a clear eyed bet on yourself that you were right. Because you done fucked up, badly.

To remind us why he was demoted, he was, in the words of the Wikipedia Arbitration Committee.......

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia ... exxS#RexxS
RexxS has repeatedly threatened or engaged in the use of his administrator tools in topics where he has made substantial contributions or where he has had significant disputes with editors......and threatened to use his tools to remove the template editor user right from a user he was in a conflict with.

Rexx has on two occasions edit-warred to restore his preferred versions.

RexxS has at times displayed unnecessary hostility during discussions that inflamed rather than defused conflict
I mean, fucking hell. I like reading this, because it reminds me every single time, he was even worse than I had remembered. Even more guilty.

I mean, talk about ticking MULTIPLE BOXES in the what do you not want to see in an Administrator checklist.

It says a lot about Wikipedia's inability to govern itself, a crucial part of that being the basic rule of law and respect for it, that there are people who still want to live in a world where these are scurrilous lies, that somehow RexxS was set up or treated harshly. Honestly pathetic. Delusional.

What makes it so doubly delicious, is that ArbCom is quite literally the one body on Wikipedia that is democratically elected. So if you're the sort of sad bastard of an editor who spends his entire editing career criticising ArbCom, well, you're making a mug out of yourself. ArbCom are Wikipedia. Don't like them, vote them out. If they keep making rulings you disagree with, even as the Committee's makeup changes over time, MAYBE YOU'RE THE OUTLIER?

Drmies got elected, by the skin of his teeth, as some sort of real people's candidate. He achieved fuck all. Because he is a piece of shit, in reality, representing only a small disgusting minority. As a man who thinks both RexxS and Malik Shabazz would make fine Administrators (both were in fact, utter car crashes, due to deep seated personality defects), he really should have done the decent thing by now.

The best part of all was that his punishment was merely a demotion back to ordinary editor. The role he had held for ELEVEN YEARS. What happened next was where we got to see the REAL RexxS. This asshole, the man who had been at pains to say Adminship was no big deal to him, he didn't need it, wouldn't care if he didn't have it, that he was all about the content, the encyclopedia, blah di fucking blah blah.

Well, it was all lies, wasn't it? The minor inconvenience of being demoted from a role he had barely managed to obtain and could barely keep for two years, was all it took for him to leave permanently. So much for his commitment to the encyclopedia, eh? Wikipedia is a selfish egotistical hobby, and RexxS was no different to any of the selfish bastards in the end, when it mattered. He was only ever in it for himself. And it really did matter, once he'd had a taste, whether or not he had power over other people.

The reality had already been seen in his RfA. In his view, the community could get fucked if they wanted him to wait 6 months and make a run again, once people's temperament concerns had been satisfied. This was to be a one time offer, an offer of his services that the community should be grateful for. Now we know why he was so scared of what was effectively going to be a probation period.

He wanted it badly, the greedy little bastard, and grabbed it with both hands. Even went back on his pledge that if his RfA was too close to call and needed to be assessed by Bureaucrats, he would withdraw. Not sure why he ever thought it wasn't headed that way, the trends were clear and obvious. Except sheer arrogance.

Which is the best part of all. It was utterly disgusting the way actual Wikipedia Bureaucrats changed policy just like that, just to suit RexxS. There was after all, only one conceivable way to overturn a remarkably and unusually uniform base of opposition - downgrade their concern. Just pull a new thing out your ass - apparently, and rule that, maybe for that one day only, civility was no longer a Pillar. It carried less weight than, well, anything said by supporters. Even presumably all that shite about what people knew of RexxS from real life.

Will these unelected job for life bastards be doing that again? You can't say they won't, eh? Which is a wow moment.

Really opens your eyes to their inability to govern themselves.

I will leave the best to the end. This utter car crash was a real blow to Bishonen's credibility, caused in large part as it was by her utterly contemptuous attitude to the community. But it also showed the real fear she instills in everyone. Once the dust settled and people could see what part she played, well, nobody said a word, did they? Not apportioned to her any blame at all. Literally the Queen of Wikipedia. Infallible.

I was amused to see she did try and offer mitigation in the case, claiming that he might have been suffering from quarantine rage, and of course, the age old excuse, that he just cares so much. I don't know why she bothered. If there is one downside to being Bishonen, who has been a harsh critic of ArbCom and has at times literally flaunted her ability to overrule them with impunity, is that you can rest assured the Committee doesn't much give a shit what she thinks when it's a matter she really can't influence with either direct or soft power.

So, where is RexxS now? I have a morbid curiosity to know if he still does all those IRL things connected to the movement? Or has he quit completely.

I should go to a meetup one day. Just to point at the bastard and laugh. And if he wants to fight, and with his temper he would I am sure, I will be more than willing to oblige. The only thing I hate more than bullies, are the cowards who prosper by hiding under their skirts.

He is absolutely the sort of person Drmies would miss terribly. Kindred spirits. Not for nothing have I often cast Drmies as the King (or rather, a less powerful Prince Regent) to her Queen. If it wasn't one protecting him, it was the other. He is perhaps crushed because his little Prince has gone, lost, wandering the desert. And it probably kills him to know that he maybe could have saved him, had he managed to stay on the Committee, or just been a better father all round.

And to think, it could have all been avoided. Just a simple acceptance of a basic and obvious fact. Someone who had insulted a user just days before his own effectively self filed RfA, itself filed as some weird point making joke, is just not suitable for Adminship. Period. Obvious. It isn't a time served medal. It's a job for life, which is extremely hard to take off someone. You need multiple, sustained failures of what are some pretty basic bright line rules. And even then, people will fucking fight you, and fight you hard. Get real nasty, as if you really were trying to rob some old pensioner of his gold watch.

RexxS would still be an editor, and Drmies wouldn't be drowning his sorrows.

Ah well. It's Wikipedia. If they weren't utter scum, our lives would be way less fun.

I am dancing, dancing on that grave tonight. It must have been something I said......

in case anyone forgot his real identity:

https://diff.wikimedia.org/2015/05/26/s ... wikipedia/
And the WMF published the usual self-serving crap calculated to make the WMF look good--no matter how bad the unpaid volunteers look.
Thanks to his positive experience as a contributor, he has now become an active promoter of Wikipedia and the free knowledge movement: “We want to create something with it after all, it’s the biggest encyclopedia — and it only works because of all the people put their time into it.”
Six years later he vanished, after being fired by Arbcom.

Doug was already an unpopular asshole. His bloody adminship did not last even two years. THE OTHER ADMINS fucked up, and THEY cannot blame anyone but themselves.

Care to elaborate? —Pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 22:01, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Nope, do you ask the support votes that as well? I have my reasons and I don't want to get into it, and I don't want to turn this into a debate. Sir Joseph (talk) 00:47, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

"Historically, there has not been the same obligation on supporters to explain their reasons for supporting (assumed to be "per nom" or a confirmation that the candidate is regarded as fully qualified) as there has been on opposers."-- Pawnkingthree (talk) 17:06, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

Could be, but I have valid reasons to oppose, but historically, oppose voters have been badgered. I'm not interested in that. Sir Joseph (talk) 18:31, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
