This is all the result of consensus debate by Wikipedia editors, who apparently think they're quite smart.
But hey. It's not all bad. Thanks to the heroic efforts of Jess Wade, if you're a black woman who was possibly the first of your kind (maybe black women, maybe African American women) to discover (or just assist as part of a three person team, or a huge team) an element (maybe an element, maybe just a superheacy element), then you can be recognised by Wikipedia.
Because they're smart. They'd have spotted any issues with fraud or advocacy there.
