Because many firms have tried to do this before, and failed--without government support/funding it's apparently hopeless. The Thuraya satphone system only exists because the UAE's sheiks were tired of having people spy on their communications, "Supposedly". Because of course Iridium and Inmarsat are in bed with the NSA and the Five Eyes spooks.
