It may just be something totally innocuous - starting in 2021

What is amazing to me is that Wikipedia has a "thin bench," a very very limited (and declining) number of people that exert quite a bit of effort keeping the platform operational (and dysfunctional).

What is amazing to me is that Wikipedia has a "thin bench," a very very limited (and declining) number of people that exert quite a bit of effort keeping the platform operational (and dysfunctional).

En-WP is now down to 464 "active" admins out of 905. 349 are listed as "semi-active" and 88 are "inactive" and subject to being dumped the next time their "community" decides to clean house again.

A good number are finagling their contributions to appear "active". Realistically, I figure that maybe 200 of them are actually doing serious amounts of work. These are all-time low figures. WIthout edit and admin bots, WP would be drowning.

Commons is even worse: down to 184 "active" admins. As I recall, at one time there were more than 700. Their database has been diddled to hide the historical statistics. Again, many of them are inactive and lying about it. Watching over 93 MILLION images, many never checked for copyright issues or legality. Also have only 6 bureaucrats and 4 oversighters left.

That's probably the most concerning part. After all, Bureaucrats are not needed often. While Oversighters need to be active 24/7 and only two of them are actually active. I wonder how long the oversight queue is.
