That's one's a classic Wiki-clusterfuck because the AFDs attract some really awful Wikipedians. Tamzin, Andy the Grump, Sandstein etc. and too many others to list. (You kept seeing E.M.Gregory in AFDs, well not anymore--he was banned in 2019 by Bbb23 as a naughty sockpuppet. One sock beats up the other.)
WP has been controlled by deletionist types for the past 15 or so years. I suspect some of them would like to delete ALL the content and just have a giant noticeboard full of abuse. It's the only reason types like Tamzin and Sandstein are there. They get their rocks off deleting/banning things and screaming "the rulez" at each other.
I could put down some more ruinous clusterfuck AFDs, but there are literally too many to keep track of. Even Trump-related battles are too numerous. Do a search for "wp:afd trump".
They even MFD the AFDs sometimes.
