If this gains any attraction you'll know because the US congress will schedule hearings on it and, I expect, Eric Barbour will be called as an expert, non-partisan witness. I'll send an email to my conrgressman to that effect but I don't expect any action from the partisan stooge.

No external force will destroy Wikipedia, the admins and wiki-insiders will do that on their own.

It's not 2007 any more. I don't remember the last time I had an IRL discussion with someone and they said "check wikipedia". Anyone outside of the Western liberal bubble, i.e. most of the world, sees Wikipedia for what it is -- a platform for US/NATO propaganda.

It's coming to a point that a lot of people don't believe something because it is on Wikipedia.

It's not just politics, it's science and history, as well, pop culture. The more they push a single POV (ironic in light of NPOV and POVPUSH) the more people distrust them.

The day after this story was published, a member of ArbCom, “CaptainEek,” claimed in a noticeboard thread on Wikipedia that the committee only received a 50-page dossier, not the full 244-page dossier that we have published at The Journal. The editor who compiled the dossier disputed this claim, telling me that they sent their first email on the matter ArbCom on Sept. 3 that was “an initial assessment of the extent of off-site coordination, players involved, and articles affected. The email includes a collection of screenshots of the discord capturing inculpatory evidence of the coordination effort, as well as links to the discord, and many of the affected ultimately determined to have been targeted.” The editor said they had sent a couple more emails to the committee later in the day detailing additional evidence and followed up on Sept. 5 asking for confirmation the committee had received the editor’s emails after having received no response. The editor further claimed that they then sent a 50-page report containing “an updated collection of direct evidence gathered from the TFP discord channel.”

That's EXTREMELY unusual. In the past, news outlets gave WP a wide berth, and never criticized Arbcom for their (routine and not unusual) incompetence. Apparently a few prominent Jewish figures are starting to mutter about "antisemites" on WP, when in the past the exact opposite was true. Even five years ago this would have been unimaginable.

In the end, congressional investigations and so on would be the perfect endgames instead of rashly driven reforms which would risk a Chesterton’s Fence situation. Readers, editors and operators deserve their rights to know and understand what exactly went wrong at Wikipedia and how the mistakes can be prevented or mitigated in the future.

While I used to support anonymous IP-editing in the past, insights by the likes of Atsme and others are starting to convince me that IP-editing is silently becoming a time sink for editors which lowered the bars for vandals while wasting valuable time of editors. In the future, the prohibitions of no-account editings would therefore be new Chesterton’s Fences across many encyclopedias.
